Sensitive dog food

My dog has an extremely sensitive stomach. If she eats anything out of the ordinary she will have diarrhoea, go off her food and just be ‘off’.

I’ve cut out all her treats trying to find a recent cause. It is fine for a few days then goes back to diarrhoea.

She was fantastic on the wainwrights trays but she’s bloody picky as well and refuses to eat them now. Then when she has an empty stomach she gets diarrhoea as well.

I’m looking for a cheap, good quality sensitive wet food (she won’t eat kibble at all) She currently has step up to naturals tins but there must be something better that doesn’t cost any more?

I’m clueless about raw but if it’s pre made and not expensive I’d be willing to give it a go. Or any decent grain free brands that I can buy in bulk perhaps.

Thanks in advance !

Yes Bitey if you're lucky enough to have one of those dogs, like the ones on the teeth cleaning video, that sit perfectly still while you're brushing I imagine it's quite effective.

Mine tends to wave her head around so it does mean I'm not doing a perfect job. Like you I just hope it helps.

Haha yes I wonder where they get their 'stunt dogs' for those videos Grin

I have another question! Sorry
Her poo is all good now. Finally. Best it’s ever been.
She generally has three walks a day. Morning at about 6 , afternoon about 11 and then evening about 6.
Her afternoon walk poo is always a bit runnier, someone said it’s becsuse she hasn’t had chance to digest the food. It’s nowhere near diarrhoea but a bit sloppy.
Could we skip that walk to give her more time to digest before pooing? She will poo on any walk that she goes on whether she needs to or not I think it’s just habit.
I can swap the walk for a run and play in the garden instead which she will prefer- she doesn’t really like walks on the street during the day she hates cars.

As long as she is getting enough exercise and mental stimulation it's up to you on how many walks you do and when. Sometimes we don't 'walk' at all in a day because we are doing agility and ball playing in the garden so he doesn't need to.

Mol1628 · 17/06/2018 09:36

Her morning walk is generally at least half an hour. That’s our ‘nice’ walk where we go on the field- on a weekend I have longer so it’s often about an hour and a half.
Then we play in the garden at about 10am
Walk at about 11 but that’s just round the block and she doesn’t like it since it’s busier at that time.
Play again in the garden about 4
Then she has a last 15 minute walk before bed about 6.
But I might stop the afternoon walk and then just do some extra time in the garden with her she much prefers this.

Have you tried Tails.com they do tailor made food and you get 1st month free. They do a questionnaire on your dog's lifestyle, medical conditions etc dry, wet and raw diets

My dog has sensitive skin and it falls out in patches, after being on this new food for 2 months his skin and coat are nearly back to normal and looks so much better, he was medicated for months previously with no little change.

BiteyShark · 17/06/2018 09:46

Stopping the afternoon walk doesn't sound unreasonable at all. I know what you mean about pooing on a walk, we have just started an evening short walk to make sure he does poo before bedtime Grin

@Mol1628 hi OP my dog was the same so I switched him to raw and his condition is 100% better. I buy the premier packs from pets at home they are about £1 a pack and contains everything your dog needs in them. Even my cats love the chicken one. It is manmade by nature's menu.

Even though vets will sin the praises of royal canine hills etc it contains very little nutrition for what our pets actually need. Have a look at how much actual protein it has.

I also buy my do and cats heir dry food from zooplus they are a fraction of what you pay at supermarkets and pet stores for tHe same product. My pets are on prison which has no grain and 70% actual protein.

She is settled on something and finally not got runny poo so I won’t be changing now hopefully :)

Yep she generally only poos on walks too but she does bark at the door when she is desperate to go out and she’s outside a lot.

She always goes for a poo walk before bed too.

Just so relieved she finally doesn’t have mr whippy poos anymore.
