Please recommendations for best dog for a London flat with no balcony but beautiful parks nearby, with an active seven year old boy. He wants a guard dog, I would like even tempered, friendly, good with children, quiet, clean and easy to look after. Our flat is not huge either, regular two bedroom.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts, looking forward to them Smile

Rag doll cats are supposed to be kept inside. They are so good natured they let anyone pick them up, so it can be unsafe for them to be let out. Although I would say it depends how big your flat is whether it’s fair on one or not. A really tiny dog could be better from a “how fair is it on the creature” standpoint.

Why would it need to be a tiny dog? My Rottie isn’t allowed upstairs, the dogs I owned in flats actually had more inside space than he does. (One was bigger than him as well)

I don't think dogs actually care about the size or type of a house/flat as long as they get the appropriate walks and exercise.

I think if a dog is left in on it’s own whilst OP is at work, the size of the dog in relation to the flat is relevant.

Not really, it’s not space dogs need through the day, it’s company and things to do...

My dog is confined to the kitchen when I leave. I can see on camera he hardly moves from the sofa despite the kitchen being massive, although he does swop sofa ends a few times. Size of the house really doesn't matter for a dog when you leave them.
