House training bells?

Has anyone successfully used dog bells for their dog to indicate they need to go out? If so any recommendations for good ones?

11month old pup has stopped whining when he needs to go out. All he does is take a couple of steps into dining room, then comes back. Obviously if I'm busy this is easy to miss. I need an audible indication.

A friend of mines Lab uses a bell. She bought it from Amazon, he got the hang of it really quickly.

I use them with my foster pups - just cheap strip of bells from Amazon - and they get the hang of them really quickly. I jingle the bells every time we go out so they associate bells=door open.

I tried the jangly bells on a strip but found they weren't loud enough, so (from amazon) got a doggy door bell. It has a pressure pad they can touch -our does it with her nose, and a separate plug in bell, which we can put where we can hear it. I think it was about 15 quid.

Our pup never figured out his own signal to go out so we got a simple string of bells from amazon (about £6) and he uses those just fine. The training process is key - we followed this advice: www.awesomedogs.ca/inline_teach_dog_ring.htm

My sister just uses a standard 'service please' type desktop bell. It is on the floor and her dog rings it to go out. It works very well.

It would not work with my two. They would take advantage and ring it just for adventures Grin
