We would like to rescue a lurcher type dog (or get a puppy) best places to go in South East?

We've been struggling to get past charities criteria for rehoming due to having younger children (aged 4 & 7), but mainly due to have a hedge around our garden rather than a high fence. We live a rural area, back onto fields, have our own small farm and have a very happy 9 year old lurcher! I've posted today in AIBU as I've been frustrated by charities turning us away before we even talk to anyone, and I know we'll offer a second dog a wonderful home. Anyone know any charities where we won't immediately be turned down?

Which charities have you spoken to so far?

Greyhound rescue, a couple of local charities and dogstrust so far.

Have you tried Clarkes Farm in Essex? I live in a flat with no secure garden but was accepted by them for a dog. It sadly didn't work out during the trial, but they were superb. Bloody love them as a rescue.

FB networking rescues...Hound from the Pound, Many Tears, Team Paw, Last Hope Rescue. All general rescue (so not breed specific) who prefer case by case approach to adopters & dogs

EGLR isn't SE based but has foster homes all over and can home check anywhere. They are very flexible, and as long as your garden is secure (they rehome to people with no garden too) it is fine - we (I foster puppies for them) might ask for fences to be amended or hedges reinforced for escape artists or particularly boingy dogs.
As the dogs are all in foster, we know what they are like with children, other animals etc etc which does make a difference compared to kennel based rescues.
If you call, please do be patient if the line is busy as lots of people are trying to speak to Pip and Linda, both of whom have jobs as well as lots of foster dogs in their own homes

If you can get to essex, try paws crossed. Dogs based in foster homes, often have lurchers. Find them on facebook and their website.

Battersea. They have a much more flexible deboning policy if you are the right person for the dog.

REHOMING!

deboning sounds a bit extreme 😂

Celia Cross Greyhound Trust in West Clandon near Guildford.

Also suggest Battersea - last time I visited Old Windsor it was full of lurchers.
