Re-toilet training

So toilet training never went as planned. She became very sick as a puppy and as such I was much too lenient with her and not strict enough with her training. My fault entirely.

We eventually got there in the end but never 100%... if the opportunity arises she still loves to sneak off for a poop right in front of the washing machine. This only tends to happen once every couple of months. So like I say, after much much longer than it should have done and many many nights of standing outside in my pyjamas for what felt like a hundred years before bed... we got there.

We went on holiday last week and my sister looked after the pets. Despite me giving specific instructions of the routine that MUST BE FOLLOWED she clearly ignored everything since I came back and the house house smelt like urine and dog hasn't gone to the toilet once outside and has gone back to going in front of the washing machine the second she knows you're not looking.

She's two. Is it back to basics of the crate and standing outside until she's done or is there an easier way now she's older?

She isn't the smartest dog either... I do sometimes wonder if she is "all there" so to speak but she is teeny and fluffy and I adore her.

Any advice much appreciated.

Go back to basics (take outside frequently and praise) and also give a command when she toilets so you can use that when you want her to toilet outside.

Clean in front of the washing machine with special cleaner to really remove the smell. Maybe also think about condoning that area off whilst you are not around to break the habit.

Back to having all my pockets stuffed with stinky treats and fussing over her when she goes outside - thought as much.

Hopefully it won't take as long this time around but I want to murder my sister

cordoning* not condoning

If you can't trust your sister to follow routines I would consider a pet sitter next time you go on holiday.

Use dog urine repellent spray (eg: 'don't pee here' in front of your washing machine or any other place she likes to toilet (where you don't want her to!)
