Hi
Gathering views on this really. Seems to be doubt over its effectiveness but will go ahead if its deemed to be the best way. Vet seems indifferent and I also can't get clarity on if doggie day care etc will want it
Thanks in advance

We use 2 boarding kennels 1 wanted it which the vet was quite happy to do, the most recent kennel didn't it really is up to you really if the daycare isn't clarifying I probably wouldn't bother.

Most daycare centres and kennels around me require it. Think of it like the human flu vaccination in that it can protect against some strains but not all.

Think dog vaccinations are quite controversial, some people (me)vaccinate very year, others say over vaccinating is bad. Dogs can still get KC even when vaccinated as it only protects against certain strains.
I have to do full vaccinations and kennel cough anyway for the kennels I use. I would definitely recommend it for a puppies first year as KC can be quite nasty. Then I guess its entirely up to you.

I have it in case I ever need to board mine I an emergency.

I don’t get mine done and I know quite a few dogs who still caught it despite having the vaccination (mine included as he had it with his first puppy jabs)
I know a vet socially who says it’s a waste of time and she doesn’t vaccinate her dog either.

I didn't bother with it until I had to put my dog in kennels but it seems like something all the kennels near me require.

There have been a couple of times when dog has had to go into kennels at fairly short notice so I keep it up to date just in case.

Thanks all. Think best to at least do for first year

Our vet doesn't seem that keen on it either. However, both my dogs picked up Kennel Cough a while ago and although my youngest got over it quite fast it was a pretty nasty illness for my older dog, who already had respiratory issues. So I had him vaccinated against it for the next two years - as there seemed to be a number of local outbreaks.
