What toys do your dogs absolutely love? I already have a kong on my need to get list but a wander down the toy aisle at pets at home left me overwhelmed. There are so many balls, soft toys, plastic bones, rope toys etc. Tell me your dogs favourites!

Mine is just working his way through the children's cuddly toys. And shoes!

An empty plastic plant pot or cardboard box.

Really.

My dogs favourite toys are chuck it balls. She can rip open any other ball in seconds, spoiling her own fun Hmm but the chuckit ball has lasted over a year and is brightly coloured (handy when they leave it in the grass).

Also rope toys and anco tree roots.

My dogs destroy most toys so we tend not to buy many of the gimmicky ones. Balls don't last an hour. Dog1 LOVES tug of war so a good rope toy, preferably with a fluffy section is always a favourite. They also love antlers to chew and they last forever.

Mine has a rubber chicken that he absolutely loves. Not so keen on antlers, balls or soft toys.

How do people feel about coconuts as dog toys?

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 07/05/2018 22:28

So much depends on the dog - breed and preferences

Chuck it balls are the only indestructible ones I've found
Kong does a good range of toys beyond their classic - the wobbler is a perennial favourite with PestDog
Children's soft toys from the charity shop, dangerous eyes and noses removed
Rope toys - poundland stocks them and they're as good as anywhere else

Rope toys here too. Good for chewing and chasing and pulling. And the ones from places like poundland last just as long as ones that you can spend moon dollars on. And plastic ice-cream containers.

It’ll depend what your dog likes doing - my favourites are not the same as my dog’s favourites, he likes ones he can pull the stuffing out of to kill the squeaker... I’m not so keen.

My dog initially liked things that looked like road kill, soft toys with no stuffing in them that he could drag about.

As he grew up most toys got destroyed in two seconds when he could literally chew them to bits with his adult back teeth. After that only the strong kong toys such as traxx, jumbler ball and disc survived. I also discovered west paw toys on amazon which have been an absolute hit now he is an adult. He loves chewing and throwing them about and they have survived months without being destroyed.

When my dog was a puppy he loved the stuffing-less squirrels and foxes, then he discovered balls and they are his absolute favourite things. Top of the list is a squeaky kong tennis ball which is kept for emergency recalls, then there’s a holee ball cage ball which is great as it’s very light so you can play with it indoors as well (not great for power chewers though). He also has two stuffed toys that he likes carrying around when he’s tired. He’s never been interested in nylabones or antlers. I’d also be wary of giving ordinary tennis balls as the coating on them is very damaging to dogs’ teeth

Definitely depends on the dog's age, breed and personality.

My Cavalier likes the big stuffed duck toys (he likes to "kill" them) and tug ropes best. He still likes a Kong (bone shape - not original shape). As a puppy he was a major chewer and loved Kong (the jumping jack and bone shaped ones were his favourites) and nylabone and if their wasn't one near enough he'd chew anything else he could find (needless to say I had a huge amount of nylabone and kongs about the place).

My cocker likes the soft "roadkill" style toy (fabric toys without stuffing in the body) and balls which he'll fetch all day long if you'll keep throwing them. He is really gentle and doesn't chew (never has), so his roadkill style toys are just the cheap home bargains ones and are lasting really, really well. Even as a little puppy he wasn't interested in nylabone or Kongs.

Anything from tug-e-nuff website
Especially if it's made from sheepskin. Not cheap and best not left with dog unsupervised as most dogs will pluck/destroy if given the chance but for a special toy to share together, unbeatable .
Tested on my own dogs and many, many clients dogs..........
