Used to sleep like a dream in her crate. Never fussed until I came downstairs (aroud 7 am weekdays and later at weekends. Now she has begun yapping before 7 am. I have begun to leave crate open (only two nights) as I thought it was to do with being confined but she did it this morning too. What should I do? Ditch the crate? Let ehr sleep on the sofa - I don;t mind this at all as long as she doesn't yap for us to get up! I often have to work late at night and am shattered! Your sage advice will be welcome.

Is it because the mornings are lighter? We have blackout curtains in our dog's bedroom!
7am isn't that early though. What time is bedtime?

ThespianTendencies · 04/05/2018 07:10

bedtime 11:30 - 12:00

At 6 months mine definitely wouldn't stay asleep until 7am unless he had been let out for the toilet and then settled again. I think a lot of young dogs wake up early especially now it's summer and brighter in the mornings and the birds are tweeting.

You could try black out curtains, white noise machine, changing bed position etc.

You could also try setting an alarm so she starts to associate that with you getting up.

She’s a baby and probably needs the toilet. Have some compassion.

My eight month old pup wakes up at 5.30 at the moment. She’s not crated, she sleeps in my room and has a puppy pad in the corner she uses if she needs to pee so it’s not that. She just sees a bit of daylight and thinks it’s time to get up and play.

Compassion? I have heaps of compassion. How judgemental can you get?!?!?

It’s not like I let her cry or lick her away. Jeez!

Unless you think dog needs to toilet (in which case alter feed times a little, to see if you can get her back to going all night), then it's probably the lighter mornings.

Biteys idea of making sure you have an alarm go off to signal it's morning is a good one. Before that ignore.

Thankyou. Good advice. 😊
