Greyhound rescue - advice please!

I've wanted to home a rescue greyhound for ages now but with having an elderly cat it's been difficult to find one that would be fine around her.
I learned today of my perfect hound - he's 3, never raced (injured during first one and almost PTS as a result), and currently lives with 14 cats very happily! Apparently loves everyone he meets.

So I've made some tentative enquiries. I'm in the process of moving to a bigger house in a rural area, work part time and love being outdoors so have plenty of time and energy to devote to him. My main worry is how my cat will cope but provided he's calm I think she'll come around and even enjoy the company? We've had her and her brother since birth but her brother passed away 2 years ago and we haven't had another pet in the house since.

Sooooo......assuming my enquiries progress further, what do I need to be thinking of? I can't believe that I've actually (hopefully) found the dog I've been looking for!

How exciting! My greyhound cross, and other greys or grey-crosses I know are very calm in the house and sleep most of tge day, so cat would probably be fine

My greyhound was incredibly lazy so your cat may go for hours at a time without even noticing he is there... He also much preferred the sofa to the great outdoors so you might find yourself enjoying the fresh air with the dog watching you through the window from his bed, or on an eternal cycle of carrying his bed out into the garden and then putting it in the best bit of sun - all day.

Greyhounds are the best. Wishing you the best of luck x

How exciting, you cant beat a Greyhound or two!

I have used stairgates to help keep cats safe. I never leave my cat in the same room when im out. Mine love the cat but still dont take chances not worth it. When i first introduced mine she was muzzled and on lead just to see both their reactions. Even if the grey has lived with cats doesnt mean he/she wont chase other cats, mine would given half the chance.

Good luck

Thanks all! He currently lives in a rescue with 14 Cats and have seen lots of photos of him snuggled up to them so chances are he'll be fine with our cat, but a slow introduction with a safe space for her to go to would definitely be the way. Very exciting, I've wanted a greyhound for so long!

They're lazy buggers. Our cross loved about a 10 minute run but hated the walk to get there and back. On some days it was like having a toddler she dragged her feet so much Grin.

He currently lives at the coast and enjoys daily runs on the beach - hope he wouldn't miss that too much if we home him!
