Dog sedated for stomach upset

We took DD to vet as he was up restless with very loud growly stomach from 5am. It wasn't hunger. He did a normal poo and lots of wees but seemed to have a tender stomach and didn't want to walk or play. Vet took his temp which was normal and said he looked and seemed ok. He couldn't really examine DD stomach because he was too anxious (climbing up me and yelping before vet even touched him, which is usual behaviour at the vet's for him). Vet gave him an antiflammatory jab and a sedative. He said the sedative wouldn't knock him out but would calm him and to take him back in the morning if he's no better. That was 10am. So he's been extremely copy since. Stomach not making any noise now. I'm worried that DD is still so out of it and that he hasn't drunk any water or pee'd in 4 and half hrs. Any advice gratefully received

He'll be fine. Dogs can go quite some time without drinking or peeing. See how he is by evening. If he can't stand up to drink, put some water on your fingers and let him lick it off.

I would phone the vets and ask for their advice.

That's really not long for either drinking or weeing. My dog who is small, so small bladder, can go all night - from about midnight - until about 10/11 in the morning without weeing. And doesn't drink much, although she's fed mostly wet food so will get a lot of her moisture from that.

My dog has gone 12 hours without peeing sometimes and never gets up for a drink of water at night. Also, she gets the runs/gurgly insides often (has always had sensitive digestive system). I keep Promax probiotic paste in stock and if she doesn't recover after a day or two, I give her this (it is given once a day for 3 days until you've used the tube up) - it is quite good and you can buy it online. I also have a probiotic powder that the vet recommended a year or two ago and can be bought online (can't remember the name now) and you can sprinkle it in their food. If neither measure sorts out her sudden loss of appetite/runs/incessant grass eating symptoms then we have to go to the vet.

Thank you for the reassurance. He has just eaten some chicken, so hopefully he's getting back to normal. The tip about probiotics is helpful, I will look at that. He does seem to get a very uncomfortable gurgly tummy from time to time.
