20 week puppy grumpy?

We have had her since 8 weeks and she's been a total delight. Happy and snugly. Hates being left and becomes utterly distraught if she isn't with someone. Sleeping was fine and she was waking anytime from 6-7. Housetraining going well.

For the last week she has seemed grumpy. Very bitey and really meaning it when she does bite. Waking at 4am to go to the toilet and then growly and bitey until breakfast time.

She used to have a regular pattern of the zoomies for a bit, then a long nap. Then good. And repeat! Now she seems to not sleep, not really want to play, just is out of sorts.

Is it a phase they go through? The 4am wake ups are killing me.

I’d take her to the vet. She may be in pain. This doesn’t sound usual

Has she teethed already (puppy teeth out, adult teeth in)? If not, this seems likely...

Some adult teeth in. Lots of puppy ones. It really hurts when she bites!

She's fast asleep on my lap now Hmm

Personally any marked change in behaviour warrants for me a vet visit just to rule out anything physical.

I don't know that she's in pain? She's not off her food at all. It just seems that before I would give her a toy and she would happily play fetch or whatever. Now she will give the toy a cursory sniff then run back and sink her teeth in my leg.

She only does it to me, not at all to the dc

I agree about taking her to the vet.

I still think a quick vet check is still worth it if you notice a sudden change in behaviour. But in the meantime when mine was bitey timeouts were the only thing that calmed him down (I used to have to carefully avoiding his teeth shove him out of the room or behind a baby gate for a few minutes. This was repeated until he got the message that my legs or feet were not for biting.)

At this age a vet visit is always sensible so by suggesting teething I'm not saying don't check with the vet too. The fact that she's only partway through her adult teeth coming in strongly suggests to me this might be a factor. It might be, for example, one of the teeth is struggling to come through and hurting her more than is normal. A vet can help check that.

Take her to a vet!

Strawberryshortcake40 · 16/04/2018 16:58

Have spoken to the vets this morning and they are happy to wait until her check up next week unless she gets any worse. They said it's probably not physical as she's only biting me!

However I chatted to them about her food and am trying increasing that as she's on the minimum amount and I wondered if she is hungry. She demolished a much bigger lunch, crashed out for two hours and has been pretty chilled since! So it may have been that or that she wanted the DC to go back to school Wink

Will keep an eye on her. Maybe some kind of growth spurt??
