Anyone have a Labrador who sleeps all day

I have a 14 month old Labrador. Out on walks he's typically full of enthusiasm and never gets tired.

I work three days a week. On two days he goes to Dog day care, on the other one he comes to work.

At work he chills in the office and has two quick wee trips out and a 15 minute walk at lunchtime. He has a decent walk before work and a walk afterwards which is becoming longer now the nights are lighter.

I've realised that he just snoozes all day long in the office and seems very happy. I'm considering stopping daycare as he seems content at work.

Advantages to stopping daycare are: saves money, less time pressure as I almost break my neck getting there and to work and home on time.

Does anyone have a dog that happily chills all day?

My dog goes to daycare but seems happy with less walks on the days he doesn't go. However, I wonder if that's because he's simply enjoying the more relaxing days given that at day care he gets two walks and also plays with other dogs in between.

What I am asking is are you sure he is happy chilling in the office because he has been running about like mad at daycare so if you stopped daycare he might not be as chilled.

Hmmmm Bitey it's hard to be sure. However, I was off work yesterday and really unwell so Ddog had only a short walk and he's still happily snoozing under my desk today.

I see where you are coming from. He may be less chilled without his two day care sessions. It's been good for him to meet other dogs and play with them there too.

He's sadly being neutered next week so I'll review afterwards as that may affect his energy levels etc.

Would prefer not to turn this into a neuter debate......

It's a hard one as when my dog has been on enforced no exercise he has been fairly chilled for a few weeks and he is a working cocker around 18 months old.

But I know he runs around like mad when he goes to daycare three times a week and I don't feel as guilty not exercising him as much when I work from home on the other days.

The costs do mount up so I understand that one. If you cancel daycare then if you find he isn't as chilled and clearly needs more exercise would you be able to get him back in or employ a dog walker that picked him up from your work etc?

Oh my dog was neuterured at age of 10.5 months and it didn't affect his energy levels at all but obviously all dogs are different.

Four year old lab bitch here. Long walk first thing in the morning. Will sleep until next walk at lunchtime.
She then sleeps until her tea about 5ish then sleeps all night until I get up at 6.30.

Very active on walks, usually does a Houdini on morning walks, would say she's very active when out and about.

Rarely left alone now as I work night shift now, so home in the day and has Retriever for company.

My chocolate lab loves her sleep and would sleep all day if she could Grin

Thanks for the info..

I'm hoping neutering him changes nothing other than his tendency ejaculate on other dogs and occasionally people. Sorry TMI but I don't know how else to explain our issue....

Good point, I wouldn't want to loose daycare completely as they are fantastic and it's so useful at times.

I grew up with labs. Generally all ours did was eat and snooze between walks. They did get 2 x 1hr walks (mostly off-lead) per day and had access to a large garden but nothing much interesting happened during the day (my parents were home as our house had a shop on the side but were working in said shop).

Me ! I sometimes worry he's depressed because he's so chilled out at home and rarely leaves his bed in between walks. He is very enthusiastic on walks and loves going out and can happily be out for a couple of hours but is just the same if he only gets 20 minutes.

He's an unneutered almost 4 year old lab.
