Poor thing is feeling very sorry for herself. She's already perked up a bit in the last hour, but is still snuggled under her blanket and making lots of grumbling/groaning noises. She also hooted at one point Confused

Really worried about the prospect of ten days on-lead exercise. She's a lurcher, she needs to run! She's going to destroy my house, isn't she?

She will probably be a bit sorry for herself for a day or two longer, then happy to have short lead walks two or three times a day. Then kongs and raw marrowbones well may become your friend! Good luck

She has just accepted a chunk of salmon, one flake at a time (because she is too poorly to chew). She wishes her subjects to know that she is rallying.

I really want to take advantage of the calm, quiet dog situation while it lasts. This may never happen again! Haven't thought of anything other than enjoying stretching out on the sofa myself, since she's in her own bed for a change.

Oh bless her. She'll be back to normal before you know it! I couldn't keep my lab from jumping around once she felt better (couple of days) and whilst I picked her up (yes, really!) when possible, she would out-fox me frequently and I'd be terrified that her stitches would tear.

She was fine, and healed really quickly. The only thing that happened was her getting both back legs tangled up in her special t-shirt during the night so she couldn't move. I panicked until I saw why she wasn't moving to greet me!! Funny/not funny!

Yes, they soon perk up and then the battle is to stop them leaping around until the vet says it's ok.

Mental stimulation is the way to go. In the past posters on here have recommended 101 things to do with a box by Karen Pryor - it's an online thing - for these sort of situations . Might be of help to give you some ideas to keep her mind busy.

I actually was pretty strict with my whippet when she was done. Couldn't ever stop her from jumping up on furniture etc, which could result in damage to the wound apparently, but kept her on lead for a fortnight during walks.
Wasn't that bad really.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 12/04/2018 21:21

Well, two days down, eight to go (am absolutely counting spay day as day one rather than day zero). Been trying to feed her up today, as she's a typical lurcher and turns into a hobbling skeleton after missing just one meal.

Tiny bit of spotting from the wound, but it's looking good and she's her usual foul smelling pain in the ass self.

Will try the box idea at the weekend, thanks!
