Is this normal after a general anesthetic

My dog had a relatively minor OP today and was home at 5pm. She hasn’t moved at all but hasn’t slept, just laid with her eyes open. Is this normal? She’s 11

I’d contact the vet. They are definitely very dozy after an anaesthetic, often cry a lot, but the eyes open is a bit weird Id say.

She's probably shocked by the whole thing. I assume she is in fact awake rather than asleep with eyes open? My dog had an (big) op when older (probably 10 or so) and went into a deep shock state for nearly 2 days (retreated into herself) - I was nearly in despair but she did come out of it - I am sure yours will too and sooner, since it was a minor op. Give her time and cuddles and keep her warm.

Anaesthetics take dogs differently - there's a huge range of interesting post-op reactions! Lots of dogs shiver, some howl (for hours!), some bounce back like nothing has happened, some are utter drama llamas.

My old dog had an op, and was just a bit sleepy that evening, then back to normal by the next day. In contrast, when my youngest dog was speyed, it upset her for months - she really wasn't herself at all, it upset her dreadfully.

If you have any concerns with a dog who has been given an anaesthetic, always ring your vet for advice, even out of hours.

Phone the out of hours vets... I did and got some advice over the phone at no cost. Definately worth it for peace of mind. They will advise if this is normal or whether needs to be seen.Hope your dog is ok.
