Picking up a puppy at 12 weeks

Hi all
In short breeder and our circumstances may lead to us getting a puppy of this age. Most seem to be collected at 8 weeks and I know there is the all important window of socialisation..... But I have also seen advice that this is a good age?
Any thoughts or anything I should particularly think of for this circumstance. I was thinking the second set of vaccinations would be due for example?
Thanks!

We picked up our puppy a week ago and she was also 12 weeks.

I was very anxious about the socialization window like you. However she has been absolutley fine! She did have to get used to the garden but it didnt take long! I take her to pets at home and walk around with her where I live. Shes extreamly friendly to strangers, dogs and not nervice at all! Everyone comments on how confident she is compaird to theres at that age, and I really think keeping her with her mum and siblings for that extra month made a massive difference. When we collected her the breeder had already done her seccond vaxinations so maybe yours will to?

Congratulations on your new puppy!!

We picked up our puppy at a similar age, have had no real problems. Struggled to get a puppy training class at first as many were already booked up but had a couple of sessions of one to one with a dog trainer which was really useful.
you may need to work on pup's name, and also, if puppy has had his/her second injection and is safe to go out, go off lead in a safe area where pup is keen to follow you about and gets used to the idea of staying close!
will depend on how well your breeder has done socialisation - ours came used to car travel and crates, we had to work on toilet training and the rest, but she had clearly been well socialised

To be honest, it depends quite a lot on what kind of pup it is and how it will be kept until you collect it.

Toy breeds, for a start, should never be leaving their breeders until 12 weeks anyway - so no issue.

A Malinois or similar who would not be socialised until then - no way.

And infinite variables in between ...

What has breeder said about vaccination schedule - will they start it (and are you local enough to get further vaccs at their vet, or can your vet get the same make so continue rather than re-start)?

Are they keeping other pup(s) there too?

Thanks all . All very good points to think about. Hadn't realised socialisation varied by breed so much. It's a cocker spaniel. Thanks again

Our working cocker was 10 weeks, due to a prearranged holiday we had booked months previously.
I think the important thing is to get a clear idea from the breeder what level of socialisation they will have before you have them.
