Worms - do not read whilst eating!

Flippetydip · 03/04/2018 10:16

Sorry, this is a disgusting - my apologies in advance.

I was (and I admit this, totally my fault) about three weeks late worming the hound. I gave her the worming tablets about a week ago, and since then she's passed twice pooh with what looks like a massive worm in it. (vom)

Is this her passing them and therefore I don't need to do anything else or does she need another dose or do I need to go the vet? She's fine in herself.

Thanks in advance.

It sounds as though the worming tablet has done its job, so you shouldn't need to do anything else unless your dog seems unwell or out of sorts.

Sympathies over how vile the worms are when they are expelled Envy

CMOTDibbler · 03/04/2018 10:22

Worms are vile, but the worm tablets have done their job. Just be careful to worm on time next time to catch any that larvae/eggs that were still around and to pick up all the poo in the garden carefully.

We had some very wormy foster pups earlier this year, and the first worm dose was like a lump of spaghetti

Flippetydip · 03/04/2018 10:33

Thanks both. I called DH over to see yesterday as it was so impressive - my mother was with us too and she was totally fascinated whereas we were both disgusted!

CMOT - I do not envy you the wormy pups!

I will be more on the ball next time. So I can just leave her now and worm again in three months?

The joys of dog ownership [boak]

ScreamingValenta · 03/04/2018 10:50

Yes, just worm again as normal in 3 months - hopefully you won't see any worms next time!

Flippetydip · 03/04/2018 11:06

Thank you :)

Yes, fascinating though it was, I can live without seeing it again.

I share this story whenever I can, because it’s so lovely, but I saw tapeworm segments moving in my dog’s poo. So I bought special tapeworm tablets ($$$!!), and mere hours later she passed two big tangled masses of tapeworm, while I was walking her. The second one got stuck and I had to pull it out while she pranced about panicking.

That’s all, folks. 😂

Flippetydip · 03/04/2018 11:20

Husky - you win - where's the vom emoji when you need it?

But - as you are the expert - what's the difference between tape worm and normal worms? These were way bigger than tape worms - and yes, unfortunately given that my children are consummate thumb suckers I have experience of that too. I'm living the dream!

Flippetydip · 03/04/2018 11:21

Sorry - I should have said way bigger than THREAD worms, not tape worms. My children have yet to have the joy of tape worms!

OP posts:
CMOTDibbler · 03/04/2018 11:34

Tapeworms are flat - like a wide linguini. Roundworms (much more common) are like thick spaghetti

HuskyMcClusky · 03/04/2018 11:39

what's the difference between tape worm and normal worms?

The only reason I knew they weren’t normal worms is I’d been giving her an all-wormer tablet regularly and then I saw these hideous fat white maggotty things crawling out of her poo (sorry! 🤢). So I did some googling and discovered that standard worm tablets don’t kill tapeworms. And could also see from the pics on Google images that the crawling things couldn’t be roundworms or hookworms but were, in fact, live tapeworm segments.

I can tell you that pulling dead tapeworm from your dog’s bum whilst standing next to a picturesque lake of picknickers is not a recommended life experience. 🤣

Flippetydip · 03/04/2018 12:10

Perfect- we have roundworms - definitely spaghetti rather than linguini.

Thank you :)

husky I imagine it's better in the retelling than it was in reality. Bless you - that sounds hideous. Did you take it home with you?

HuskyMcClusky · 03/04/2018 12:15

Tapeworms are flat - like a wide linguini.

Yes, exactly.

Re: taking it home - yes, I bagged it up and then had to carry the bloody thing home to the wheelie bin! A special day. 😂

Flippetydip · 03/04/2018 12:16

Husky you are my new hero!

🤣 Good to have a classy claim to fame!

SluttyButty · 03/04/2018 13:08

Ugh we found spaghetti, maggoty type worms in our dog's poop. We've given her the ginormous drontal XL tablet. Are these good? Do they work? I nearly had kittens and screeched at my husband when I saw them 😷

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 03/04/2018 13:25

Yes @SluttyButty Drontal is the best on the market IMO. For anyone suffering a true known infestation i.e. visible worms in the poo, it's best to retreat in a month's time just to make sure it's all done. The every 3 months dosing is routine management. If that makes sense?

And just to add to the gross stories...
My most recent rescue also came to us with a bad dose of worms. I gave him so drontal and then on our early morning walk he did his business and as others have described, it was like a pile of spaghetti. So here's the shameful bit - I was so revolted whilst trying to scoop it all up with my poo bag, that I lost control of my gag reflex and then managed to vomit over the pile of poo/worms. It then took me even longer to bag all the revolting mess up.

SluttyButty · 03/04/2018 13:34

ThanksHodge I'll buy a second one and give it to her after a month.

And 😂 at your gaff.

ScreamingValenta · 03/04/2018 13:36

Another vote for Drontal.

My dogs worms were like a vile hybrid of spaghetti and bean sprouts .

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 03/04/2018 13:45

Thanks @SluttyButty ;) The worst thing is that all the dogs seemed embarrassed by me ;) All pretended not to know who I was as I cleaned it all up. Used a lot of poo bags!!

Flippetydip · 03/04/2018 14:00

hodge the vomit freaks me more than the worms unfortunately! (Emetophobe!)

OP posts:
PuntCuffin · 03/04/2018 14:14

Definitely repeat dose after a month of you are actually seeing worms.

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 03/04/2018 16:46

Apologies @Flippetydip !

Flippetydip · 03/04/2018 16:49

No worries @thehodgeofthehedge - at least I wasn't there to witness that scene of nightmares!
