Dog insurance, three legs!

My rescue dog arrives this week, but with only three legs - lost one as young puppy in a car accident.

Looking at insurance now, should I be letting them know first? It wasn't caused by a previous condition after all.

On the other hand, should I actually be getting a discount?Grin

It is something that should be listed as a pre existing condition - you can't claim you didn't know about it when the dog arrived Grin You'll probably find it listed under amputation

Definitely put it as a pre-existing condition. They may exclude things and you need to know if you are happy with your particular insurance companies cover.

Things they can exclude range from highly likely exclusions like arthritis to less likely exclusions like injury to any limb. So you really do need to know.

Also tri-paws are brilliant dogs and it's amazing what they can still manage. My brother's little tri-paw can still leap over 5foot in the air!

Is it a front or back leg? If a front I strongly recommend a perfect fit harness. It's the only thing my brother's tri-paw can't escape from.

I don’t think you’d have a leg to stand on. 😁

Have you thought about joining a credit union? At one time I’ve had eight cats and dogs and found it was better value, as it’s so rare that you need a really expensive treatment. It’s your own money and you’re just taking a low cost loan if the animal is seriously ill/injured.

Make sure your insurers are sensible ones - unlike my friend who has no legs and dwp keep asking her on forms if there is any change in her disability!! Because you hear fo folk growing new legs all the time!..... Hmm

Thank you all for the suggestions. I want to avoid any blathering with cover and make sure its as tight as possible.

It's her back left leg which is gone, she was run over in Bosnia at about two months and I guess knows no different.

I am very excited!
