8 week old puppy in pub?

sconebonjovi · 18/03/2018 13:42

I've had my lovely pup 3 days, and she's very settled seemingly! Can I take her to the pub, either in a back pack or baby sling, if I put her on my lap and feed her treats? I won't do it if it will be too overwhelming for her

doesnt she need her jabs before she can go out in public? Although I guess plenty of dogs dont get any jabs and are fine. Does she like being fussed over? If i saw a puppy in a pub i dont think id be able to leave it alone :D And it depends on the pub. Some encourage dogs, and some definitely dont!

We did from week 10. It was part of his socialisation. Pup stayed firmly on my lap, no paws on the floor and he just slept.

Mouthfulofquiz · 18/03/2018 14:31

I guess it depends a bit on whether dogs are allowed in the pub at all?

TropicPlunder · 18/03/2018 14:47

Be prepared to leave early! I took my older pup to a cafe when I hadn't had her very long and she was great ..... for an hour. Then she was restless and we went home (before my second coffee, damn it)

CMOTDibbler · 18/03/2018 16:52

Yes, you can take her, but in a sling, staying on your lap and then you have the toileting problem. With little pups I take them to a dog friendly cafe for a fuss and social contact, but leave when they've just had a wee, and not stay long

LuckDragonDog · 18/03/2018 17:35

Yes, I did this with mine. Luckily our local is only over the road. Put him in a puppy sling, after a wee. Had him on my lap & fed him treats Smile

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 18/03/2018 17:37

I would. She’s just not allowed on the ground, so not for long because she’ll need to pee.

DrunkenUnicorn · 18/03/2018 18:21

We did at 8 weeks.

It was tiring stuff!Grin

You shouldn't really take then out until after 12 weeks jabs according to my get. She wasn't even allowed on the ground....which made walking to the vet fun with a 12 week old German shepherd, my arms were killing!

mintich · 18/03/2018 18:25

Vet not get!

pigsDOfly · 19/03/2018 19:22

Never heard that Mintich. As long as they don't interact with other unvaccinated dogs and are not put down on the ground/floor. It's absolutely fine for them to be out.

If you don't take a puppy out until 12 weeks you're missing a vital part of the puppy's socialization period.

DisorderedOrder · 19/03/2018 19:29

That is very very bad advice, 8-12 weeks is the MOST important time for socialisation and exposure to sights, sounds and new experiences. After that you'll likely end up with a fearful dog if it's been kept indoors prior to 12 weeks. The pub is fine OP.

Ylvamoon · 19/03/2018 19:47

You can and should take your puppy out... (before 12weeks).
Just keep them away from stagnant water and unvaccinated dogs.
(And I bet puppy has been enjoying a good run around the garden, both at the breeders and at home.)

Chippyway · 19/03/2018 21:57

Oh god

It’s terrible the amount of people who still think a dog will keel over and die if put on the floor before it’s jabs and therefore keeps the poor thing in until it’s 12/15 weeks old

None of my dogs ever received any jabs. Mine were out walking the day I brought them home and they’ve always been fit and healthy

They still have their mothers antibodies. It’s fine. Vets like to scare people because that equals money Hmm

Trust me, you will have a happier and healthier dog by socialising it from day 1!
