Our horrendous, criminals-on-the-run next door neighbours moved out yesterday and left their dog in the back garden. It lives outside the whole time and they never interacted with it or took it for a walk. I've no idea if they are coming back to get it but the dog has been alone and unfed/watered for 24 hours now. (Who moves out and leaves their dog??)

It's a small westie type dog, looks healthy (but bet it's never been to the vet) and is used to living outside so the RSPCA won't come out to get it I presume.

Sorry if I sound stupid but what would you do? Wait to see if they come back for the dog (I can see belongings still in their house)? Or just find some way of helping it?

There is a 6ft brick wall between our garden and theirs, I'd love to climb over and 'rescue' the dog but not sure how to do that as there is a soil border on our side so a ladder will not be stable/safe! Tried with a step ladder and it sank.

I have 2 cats so we can't really take the dog in (though I would love to!) and we have no car to take it anywhere. The local rescue centre is for cats only!

Any ideas as I'm not coming up with any great ones!

I hope they take him to Battersea - huge turnover of dogs and the little ones that are perfect to be London dogs (picked up on tube escalators) go so fast!

TimeIhadaNameChange · 17/03/2018 11:00

That’s great news! How are the cats getting on with their new pal?

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 17/03/2018 11:01

Well done OP. Can’t believe the arseholes who abandoned her, so sad Sad

Shmithecat · 17/03/2018 11:03

Yay! I was honestly going to offer to get a train up and rescue the dog myself yes, I've done it before. Hopefully Battersea or similar can help rehome. As pp have said, this is a perfect dog for someone!

ThePlatypusAlwaysTriumphs · 17/03/2018 11:05

Just found this thread and sooo glad it had a happy ending. Poor poor wee dog, why do these arseholes get pets? Angry. Are we sure there aren't any cats/ guinea pigs/ hamsters in the house?

TangBloodyFastic · 17/03/2018 11:05

Poor bloody thing. She looks very sorry for herself. I don't understand people, I really don't.

So glad you managed to get her, hope you don't get too much grief from RSPCA/police for going over the wall.

So frustrating that official bodies have to follow protocol and animals have to continue to suffer while paperwork is sorted out Sad

RavenLG · 17/03/2018 11:08

Omg I'm so pleased you got her. She's so lovely! Thank you for rescuing her. It's so frustrating that the RSPCA seem to not care at all. It's so cold today, you did good OP!
What are the plans for the pupper now i'll come and get her in a heartbeat

MorningCuppa · 17/03/2018 11:08

Well done op, thank god for people like you.

MaggieMay23 · 17/03/2018 11:25

Well done for getting in to get her. She looks so sad the poor little dog.
Hope she gets a good life. She probably needs a health check too.

Chippyway · 17/03/2018 11:32

The RSPCA are a sack of shit half the time. Please tell them if there’s no available homes then you’ll have her. Believe me, they won’t think twice about putting her to sleep.

Glad she’s in the warm. I’m sure your cats would grow to love her Grin

frazzledtired · 17/03/2018 11:42

Just read this. Oh OP big well done. She is gorgeous. People are so heartless treating living creatures like that Sad I bet you are tempted to keep her GrinI grew up with Westies - they are such a loving breed

teaiseverything · 17/03/2018 11:48

Well done OP! Now I'm just saying, if your cats get along with her.... Grin

sirlee66 · 17/03/2018 11:52

Oh look at her!!! What a lovely pup! I'm so glad she's okay!!! Keep us posted, OP!!

SleepFreeZone · 17/03/2018 11:55

Hope you rescuing her hasn’t stopped the RSPCA from being able to try and prosecute her owners.

BastardGoDarkly · 17/03/2018 11:58

Oh god bless her, she looks so defeated Sad

What now op?

Well done for getting her Flowers

blueskypink · 17/03/2018 11:59

Sleep - given that the owner is violent and wanted by the police, a prosecution may not be in the OP's best interests as the owner will know she reported the dog abandoned.

blueskypink · 17/03/2018 12:13

OP - you are an absolute ⭐️

pigsDOfly · 17/03/2018 12:25

Well done OP.

StickyPlum77 · 17/03/2018 12:38

Well done OP. The RSPCA are a shower of shite in my experience and as a long term rescuer I've a lot of it. Poor little thing.

Faintlinesquints · 17/03/2018 12:39

Well done OP, how sweet seeing her cosied up on front of the radiator, finally getting some warmth and cuddles! Completely understandable why you can't keep her considering what your neighbours are like, I'm surprised people are still suggesting that you do.

@platypus makes a good point, are there definitely no other pets in the house? Does anyone know if that is something the rspca/police would check?

NotAnotherNightIn · 17/03/2018 12:40

What a lovely thing you have done op. You've shown such humanity, others of our species would fail to show even a little ...wish more ppl would show as much care and consideration. I do hope that she'll find a loving home X
The law needs to be radically uphauled and whatever checks need to be brought in...cos evidently not everyone should be allowed to take on the life of an innocent vulnerable creature.

StickyPlum77 · 17/03/2018 12:40

And yes I agree with chippy. They're likely to kill her if they cant find a home. If you cant keep her , do as I often do, join some animal oriented groups on fb and ask for someone to give her a home? Took me less than an hour to find a home for a cat last week by doing that. Obviously be very careful, a lot of folk want small dogs as bait dogs.

blueskyinmarch · 17/03/2018 12:42

I'm so pleased you have managed to get her and bring her inside. She looks so sad. Poor wee thing.

mydogisthebest · 17/03/2018 12:44

So so pleased the poor dog has been rescued. I was crying reading this thread and then got to your post saying you had got the dog.

I hate people who abuse animals. My neighbours have a small dog and it is tied up outside most days. It has been outside today in a blizzard and was barking and crying. They did eventually let it in but only after about 2 hours.

I keep reporting them to the RSPCA but they are not interested as the dog has food and water.

It is not a breed that can live outside and, like the dog in this thread, seems to never get any interaction with it's owners, walks etc. It is outside if the owners are home and inside if they go out so basically almost always on its own

Aprilmightmemynewname · 17/03/2018 12:49

Well done!! She looks at home I have to say!!
