Anybody tried dog nappies?

I have a 6 year old female miniature poodle who suffers with urinary incontinence when asleep.

The vet advised it was a hormonal issue but j read that the medication had bad side affects so we have been managing the issue by encouraging wee trips, washing her beds a lot and keeping a towel under her.

This has been by no means fool proof and we have had quite a lot of laundry!

I found these: www.amazon.co.uk/Extra-This-Washable-Wraps-3-Pack/dp/B00UPEW4AA/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

Has any body tried these or similar? Would just be for the evenings when she is very tired and on us or the sofa.

I have those exact nappies for my puppy who is a nightmare with house training.

When I'm working she stays at my mums and my mum always puts those nappies on her, but they seem to need constant washing. Also make sure you get the right size because they are just slightly too big for my dog and it causes problems with them slipping off easily. We get some cheap incontinence pads and put one in the nappy.

I have more success with the disposable nappies because they fit perfect but they are so expensive!

I'd try the medication. Usually successful with no or minimal side effects. You could easily be nappying this dog for the next decade, given the long-livedness of the breed.

OK, thanks very much both. I think perhaps I'll try them and if no joy revisit the medication idea and do a bit more research. I want to avoid disposables.

She's on the cusp between sizes so I'll go smaller, thanks for the heads up!

You’d be better off toilet training your pup in the usual way. How will he learn to go out to do his biz if he is being taught to crap in a nappy??

Chippyway · 11/03/2018 18:19

No puppy will ever be house trained if you stick a nappy on them - no wonder it’s a ‘nightmare’ to train Confused poor dog! You’re obviously not training it properly.

As for the OP, in these circumstances I don’t see an issue because she can’t help it

Redpriestandmozart · 11/03/2018 21:28

Been there done that, the stress was horrendous, all the washing, the bathing of said dog and all the toilet timing. We gave in and got medication and it has changed our lives, dog is much happier, no more daily wash downs and bed washing. She is on Propalin syrup.

Have you read the op, it isn't a puppy but a 6 year old dog with a medical issue

ILoveAntButHateDec · 12/03/2018 14:32

Kinky I have read the thread. I can see why nappies might be useful for a dog who is ill but I have no experience of them so cannot recommend them to OP.

The second post is from someone who puts a puppy in nappies instead of toilet training it. That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard! How will that puppy ever learn to toilet outdoors? Can you imagine cleaning the puppy after it's pood?? Yuk!!

I’ve tried them but mine hated them. She’s been on urilin for 18months and hasn’t had an accident since.
