...drink out of their water bowl and then wander aimlessly round the kitchen dribbling huge puddles water everywhere so I am constantly mopping up??

Or is it just mine Hmm

Even when they want to go to bed they make sure they get optimum water dribblage beforehand. Drives me crazy ConfusedGrin

Yes mine does that on the few occasions he drinks out of the water bowl. We end up with trails of water everywhere.

Personally though he prefers to hold off and drink out of dirty puddles Grin

My beautiful, gentle little girl has a glorious beard that many hipsters have been known to weep in jealousy over. She is so careful when drinking that she manages to lap from the side of the bowl and not get her beard wet.

However, she is not averse to occasionally peeing in the middle of the kitchen floor after a long walk on the rain. Why would she do that?

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 09/03/2018 13:16

Mine likes to throw his ball in his water dish and send a minor tidal wave over the floor. His other trick is to let the ball roll underneath the stand his bowls are in, try to retrieve it and upend his bowl in the process Hmm I need better bowls.

Ridingthegravytrain · 09/03/2018 13:18

I think they are of superior intelligence and like to mess with our minds. I tell myself that else i’d just despair!

Mine's more of a lady. When she's had a drink of water - bowl is in the kitchen - she walks back along the hall, into the living room and wipes her face nice and dry on the carpet. Lovely!

Stormwhale · 09/03/2018 13:28

Mine takes pieces of her food out of her bowl then wanders around eating them leaving a trail of crumbs as she goes. She then circles back, grabs a bit more and does this on repeat until there is none left. It doesn't matter how many times I point to her food and usher her back, she keeps doing it.

SwimmingInTheBlueLagoon · 09/03/2018 19:04

My Cav is a lovely gentle drinker and makes no mess.

My Cocker on the other hand is not just a water dribbler, he also manages to 'attack' the water in the bowl in such away that half of it ends up around said bowl every time he has a drink. And as if that wasn't enough he quite likes jumping his front end up and down whilst having 1 or 2 paws in the water (dependent on bowl size) soaking himself and a wide radius of the floor. I have resorted to a small bowl that clamps onto the side of his crate, so he can't get his paws in it, although I still have a big bowl outside, that he jumps in.

fleshmarketclose · 09/03/2018 22:10

No Eric drinks and then comes and wipes his face on my new carpet Hmm

DramaAlpaca · 09/03/2018 22:17

My boy leaves a wet trail across the floor after a visit to the water bowl. None of my previous dogs have been so messy. His favourite thing is to drink the water out of the jug as I'm pouring it into the water bowl. It must taste better or something.

Ridingthegravytrain · 10/03/2018 12:39

From reading this I guess mine could be worse! One of mine does wipe his face along the edges of the sofa to clean it. But only if he doesn’t have someone’s groin to do it on first Shock

Oh Riding I think you win. Grin

StandardPoodle · 10/03/2018 19:17

This strikes a chord! Our boy drinks with great enthusiasm then scatters little puddles of water all over the floor. Even better though is when I fill the watering can from the water butt in the garden - he loves to intercept the water as it comes out of the butt and ends up with a very wet face.

Gingersstuff · 15/03/2018 15:19

My old boy used to come and stand in front of me sitting on the sofa after his dinner, and burp in my face. He'd then bury his face in my crotch to wipe it clean. If I wasn't there he'd find another family member. He did this every single night Hmm

RoseDog · 15/03/2018 15:20

Mine has a drink then comes and wipes her face on my jeans...every time...usually when I've just got dressed!

steppemum · 15/03/2018 15:32

Are these dribblers spaniels?

(looks suspiciously at steppedog innocently curled up in a ball on the beanbag)

floods the kitchen with every drink. Not splashes, Oh no, these are waves. Who knew one water bowl could contain sooooo much water!

Woofygoldberg · 15/03/2018 15:41

My DF's dog likes to rub her wet beard on your face/glasses when fastening her seat belt in the car. I've accepted the window beard smears & carry glass cleaning wipes in the car now. She drinks with so much noise and splashing it's actually funny.

My own Whippy is much cleaner- so delicate when she eats and drinks.

missbattenburg · 15/03/2018 15:48

Ha! The main advantage of his muckiness becoming toilet trained was that I didn't have to inspect all the wet patches on the kitchen floor to determine if they were pee or water bowl drool.

It's all drool now and I feel MUCH better knowing what it is!

Two JRTs drink at bowl: little dainty sips and clean mouths.

One hairy springer: water slopped everywhere and a 'water moustache' of darker fur round his mouth to give him away

PositivelyPERF · 15/03/2018 15:53

I’m a dog sitter and I work from home. I currently have eight dogs wandering around my kitchen dinner and dog room. I have given up walking around without shoes. 😁

Though one of my cats also like to splash the water around the room by batting it with his paws as if it was a big drum.

Wolfiefan · 15/03/2018 15:54

They are rinsing your floor. Humans are crap at that job! Grin

steppemum · 15/03/2018 16:20

Wolfie - I wouldn't mind the floor rinse, but then he walks through it, at which point we discover that his paws are less than pristine, so he then leaves muddy footprints all over the floor.

Given up til spring, my kitchen floor is HORRENDOUS

Wolfiefan · 15/03/2018 18:56

He's rinsing the floor AND his feet. What a helpful boy.
I've given up too. Just don't look down. It's clean then! Grin

One of mine has decided that the route to Australia is through the bottom of the water bowl & has decided to dig herself there every time she goes to drink. Once she’s managed to get all the water spread over herself & the floor she tips the bowl upside down & chases round, pushing the dish with her nose, puzzled as to why there’s now nothing to drink.
