Have had my dog for 7 months now , hes 2 1/2 . When out for a walk he will lunge at peoples feet as we pass . I tend to cross the road where possible or just keep him as close to me as i can until they have passed . Is there anything i can do ?
I am already working on his reactivity to other dogs ( hops on his back legs pulling like mad ) and his fear of strangers coming into the house ( this has improved)
i would like him not to be a potential trip hazard when out !

My dog is reactive, it's hardwork!!

What lead are you using? I find a rope slip lead is best, there is a clip to clip to the collar in case he managed to slip it but he hasn't done yet. It's places further up the neck allowing you more control.

I've got a behaviourist coming out next week to help us with him.

i have had to start using a harness and lead because he pulls too much when there are other dogs and even worse when he sees a cat !

I find he can pull much more on a harness.

It's very much still work in progress for me but I've found been more disciplined in the house helps. He used to be allowed in bed, on the couch etc but now he sleeps downstairs and has one chair he's allowed on.

A good command to teach him would be a 'look' or 'at me' etc (mine is 'this').
To teach it, every time he makes eye contact, give him a treat. Start by placing the treat at next to your eye, and then gradually moving it away from your face, but only rewarding when he gives you eye contact.
Once this is learnt, when someone is approaching you can use this command to get his attention on you and ignore the passer by.

In the meantime, take some high value treats out (sausage, cheese etc) and when someone is approaching, take him to the side (in a sit if necessary) and make him focus on the treat until they pass. You may need to give several treats at they approach and pass to keep him occupied.

My boy lunges out at passing traffic if I’m not careful. I’m working on it by saying ‘look at me’ when I hear a car etc coming. He then focuses on me as the car passes and then I treat him. So far so good.
