We bought home a gorgeous Lurcher cross this afternoon. Any advice on how to help her settle in greatly received :) For background, we rescued our first dog (a terrier cross) as a unwanted puppy, she's currently 11 months. New dog is 15 months old and we're her 3rd home. First owner neglected her, 2nd one couldn't cope because she was too lively.

When we got our second puppy she slept with the first one straight away (different breeds) they bonded immediately. Still close at 4 now. One is a lurcher!!

Give her lots of love and attention, and long walks. Will you be home with her during the day?

mimibunz · 17/02/2018 20:25

Also, would love to see a picture!

Besties or what??

Ooh interesting to hear about them sleeping together. I'm currently on maternity leave, so will be home for the next 5 months, then only working 2days a week after that.

We have 4 ddogs now and they all sleep in a heap!! The 2 smaller ones have their own beds but prefer to all cuddle up in the kitchen!

Don't over do the attention. Let her settle I to your routine not the other way round.
Congratulations and good luck.

Ah she is a beauty op!!

vjg13 · 18/02/2018 08:14

How did it go last night?

DaisyChainsForever · 18/02/2018 08:53

It was a bit stressful last night, she howled the place down for about 30 minutes (the neighbours are going to love us!) while ddog1 just slept through it! She soon settled though. Woke up to a little accident next to the back door this morning (dp had let them out in the middle of the night). She is very affectionate, wanting lots of cuddles and constantly licking our faces. Both dogs seem to be getting on and she's shown no interest in the baby. So far, so good!

She's beautiful and probably really insecure, she's settle down with time and routine.

vjg13 · 18/02/2018 15:43

She is lovely, hopefully it won't take too long for her to settle into her new life Smile

Shambolical1 · 18/02/2018 16:46

She looks younger than 15 months.

Is she microchipped?

DaisyChainsForever · 18/02/2018 17:09

We're not sure if she's chipped, going to take her to the vets this week for a once over. She looks like she's been 'done' as she has a scar in that area.

Ddog2 has been with us 12 days now. All is going well, except her toilet training! It appears the previous owners had taught her to open the back door and let herself out when she needed to go. This isn't something I want happening in our house as we have a baby and another dog to consider. So now instead, she tries the door handle and if it won't open she just wees on the floor 🙈 I let her out after food and frequently throughout the day, she just doesn't understand how to tell me she needs to go. (She also won't go when we walk, preferring to hold it until we get home) Any advice? Toilet training a puppy was so much easier!
