If it’s a Welsh dog, it’s got to be Gelert!
For those who don’t know the famous legend, Gelert was a faithful hound belonging to Llywelyn the Great, Prince of Gwynedd. Llywelyn returned from a hunting trip to find his baby son and heir missing, the cradle overturned, and Gelert with a blood-smeared mouth. Believing the dog had savaged the child, Llywelyn drew his sword and killed Gelert - only to hear the cries of the baby, unharmed under the cradle, along with a dead wolf which had attacked the child and been killed by Gelert. Llywelyn was overcome with remorse and buried the dog with great ceremony. The pretty town of Beddgelert in Snowdonia has a lovely riverside walk to visit the gravesite.

Oh Yes! Maldwyn! I have an ex who's middle name was Maldwyn. He was a bit of a dog too.

Summerisdone · 05/02/2018 21:08

My cockapoo is called Kevin. I wanted to name him something a little different from a typical dog name as then I’d be sure not to hear lots of others dogs with the same name when we’re taking a walk through the forest.

On the other hand I gave my son a popular dog’s name Grin

Unicorn81 · 05/02/2018 21:15

Stanley, Kevin or Dave

DarthNigel · 05/02/2018 21:19

I also like Dave and especially Nigel Smile
Our boy Dog is called Bear (after grylls not the offspring of Cheryl and Liam).
Growing up our Dog was called Towser which is old fashioned but due a come back in the Dog naming world I think..

DarthNigel · 05/02/2018 21:21

My mother's dog was called Stanley but as it was also my dads name it became confusing...

DarthNigel · 05/02/2018 21:21

I once went on a school trip to Gelerts grave Smile

Came across a Dachshund today, called Mr Darcy!
We had a cat thirty years ago with that name.
