Moth-eaten coat

I have a four and a half year old rough coated Lurcher, who has always had the bald Greyhound thighs, but recently has started having an issue with other areas of his coat.

He is not scurfy at all, no sign of infection or redness, etc and no itching or paying any attention to the patches at all.

Basically his coat looks kind of moth-eaten and is visibly thinning in certain places - those being shoulders, elbows and thighs.

He has a rough coat on his back head and and shoulders, but has the super-fine, greyhoundy, very soft, velvety fur on his stomach and legs. The rough coat on his back, head and neck seems completely unaffected.

I’ve had a quick Google and most things like demodex seem to start on the head and neck, other things also seem to affect the head and neck primarily, then spread - whereas his head and neck are completely unaffected.

He is a blue-fawn and I am wondering about colour-dilution alopecia. The only other thing I can think of is something like a hormone or thyroid issue.

Obviously I am going to be taking him to the vets this week, but I was wondering if anyone here has any ideas of what it might be?
