Home away from home boarding and bitch just come into season

So I am going away in less than 2 weeks and have arranged for my dog to be boarded at a home boarder as she didn't like kennels all that much last time and the local ones were all booked up anyway.

Today she came into season, this means I am going to have to cancel my trip doesn't it? The boarder she was supposed to be staying with is also a dog walker and has an old dog of her own. I assume he is neutered but I can't see how she can take her now. I didn't expect her to come into season until March and I have been planning this trip for months. Am so upset. The dog is due to be spayed this year, this is to be her last season and we had only delayed it on veterinary advice (she used to have accidents and the vet suggested a couple of seasons may help this).

Anyone ever heard of home boarders taking a dog in season? Its not going to happen is it?

Have you spoken to the boarder? He may be willing, have ways to keep them separate, or know someone who might be able to help.

Erm, my girl is exactly 14 days into her season and a randy little flirt Blush there is no way I would want someone else to manage her or her potential suitors right now. Walks are short and far away from other dogs.
In short, I’m sorry but I think your trips needs to wait.

I’d speak to the person who is going to have her. Not that I board dogs, but I’d happily have a dog in season at my house. We have an unneutered female and enough well fenced land to mean we don’t have to take her out for excercise. There must be others like this who can help you.

What breed of dog is she?

Thanks for the replies. Dog is a beagle cross.

Yesterday I was very upset, the final straw in a very difficult week. And it was too late to message the woman when I realised that she was in season. Just too much, I guess, and I needed an out let.

I spoke to her this morning and she told me that it should be fine. Her dog is female. She said worse comes to worse, she'll walk her with other female dogs and take her out in a nappy so no other dog can "get to her". It is only a short trip of 4 days but an important one.

Completely understandable! Glad you've had good news from the boarder. Enjoy your trip!
