Working 2 days a week

Would you consider owning a dog if you were working 2 days a week?

I'm currently not working but in spring will be doing 2 full days.

Would love to own a dog again but I can realistically afford to be a stay at home parent to a 1 year old and a dog... is there a way that's not cruel to the dog?

For reasons outside my control (starting with the fact that he's not mine, I just look after him), PestDog is left most weekdays for a full day. I don't like it, but he copes and must have a bladder of steel, though some dogs wouldn't.

Is there someone who could pop in during the day to let it out for a wee?

I work in the office around 3 days a week. I use daycare as my dog couldn't be left alone all day. Would you be able to afford dog walkers or day care?

We work 5 days a week, I work from home 1 or 2 of those days usually but we have a dog walker for them when we're both outside if you can afford a dog walker or similar then no, it wouldn't stop me from having a dog but it is a big financial commitment - at least £200 a month for us, sometimes up to £300 depending on what our schedules are like!

I work two days a week and have a dog walker for those days. DDog is a rescue and I got her used to being left alone from day one, as advised by a dog trainer. I started with 15 minutes and increased the time each day. She's fine being left (with a lunchtime walk) and I get a lovely welcome when I return home

A dog walker or day care for those 2 days and the dog will be fine. But do keep in mind that regardless of the weather, illness etc your dog will need walked every single day... doing that with a 1year old is tricky.

Yes fine as long as there's a dog walker/neighbour who can take the dog out during the time you're at work. However I'd consider what tiny you'll be able to dedicate to taking a dog out with a 1-year-old. I struggled to keep our old dog happy when DD was 1 (she got bored in the pushchair) so perhaps wait until you're in a position where your lo can join you on walks? It's much easier now she's 3 and can potter along too Smile

I have a dog and a 9 month old. The dog was here first but if it had been the other way around I wouldn't have bought a dog after baby. Mine goes to daycare for 5/6 hours a day, I'm on mat leave and it's still stressful!!

It's fine if the dog is not a puppy, and you use a dog walker to take them out for an hour in the day. But I'd be concerned how you would manage all the walks with a 1 year old tbh
