Puppy vaccinations

So as far as we were aware our Ddog whose 15 weeks was due her 2nd vaccinations today. Went the to the vets all prepared and happy that we will be able to take the little one for a walk soon. Turns out we were given the wrong date and she is now 3 days overdue. Therefore we have been told we have to start the whole process again as the vet refused to give her her 2nd lot of jabs as they will not be covered insurance wise. Is this right? Its only 3 days overdue and poor Ddog is now stuck in the house for another 5 weeks. Since having her jabs today (had to start the course again) she's very lethargic and doesn't seem herself, is this normal for them? She's usually cuddly but this is a bit too much of you see what I mean.

Any advice at all? Has this happened to anyone else?

Can't really give advice on your specific situation but I would suggest speaking to the vaccination manufacturer and another vet for second opinion. One of our pups had its first vaccination with its breeder and when I took him to our vets they insisted their vaccinations weren't compatible, that I would have to start the whole course again and that pup would need three injections so would be about 18 weeks before could go out. Didn't sound right to me and I was really keen to get him out before that so checked with the manufacturer (written info online and phoned to double check the three injection thing) and they said it was incorrect. The vaccinations were compatible and there was no need for the third injection, that was only for high risk areas which we weren't near. Spoke to a different vet who agreed with manufacturer and completed the course for us. First vet was clearly just seeing £ signs.

3 days? Hmm um, I'd be looking for a second opinion on that one.

I've never ever been told it has to be that exact, just within that week.

I don't know whether the lethargy is from the jabs but my dog even as an adult is often more tired after a vet visit as I think it's just a bit stressful for him.

I've taken loads of puppies for vaccination and always been told to come back within 2-4 weeks, never more specific than that, so this sounds really bizarre.
Agree a trip to the vet can be quite stressful so they do tend to be quite tired afterwards.

All depends on the vaccinations puppy was due?
I'm afraid if they have gone over the last date it needed doing they will say the course needs re starting Sad.
They have to do everything within the manufacturers guideline because if puppy got sick who would you blame?
I personally would not bother with the now 3rd lot he's got to have. Also some dogs don't react well to vaccines so may be sleepy for 24 hours. Take him back if longer than this or gets worse. Hth

she sorry, sooo annoying when people get your dogs gender wrong Wink

I'm very surprised that the vaccinations were due so late too. Most puppies are fully vaccinated by 12 weeks so you can start socialising and training them.

Eifla · 15/01/2018 20:38

No way would I have accepted that.

Puppy vaccinations are usually done & dusted by 12 weeks, 14 weeks tops.

I would not be taking my puppy back to that vet

Please, please do not restart the whole vaccinating process. There is no need!

A lot of vets don’t even push vaccinations anymore. I have never vaccinated my last 3 dogs. They have always been healthy. It’ll be fine to take your puppy out. You’re already missing so much of the socialising stage.
