Lab in heat.... urgent advice please!

We have a lab, 11 months old.
Started first season 4 weeks ago.
Small amounts of fairly watery blood, feeling pretty sorry for herself, not eating much.
She seemed to pick up last week and the bleeding stopped, then day before yesterday she was pretty down in dumps again, threw up and pretty much laid on sofa the whole day looking sad!
Perked up yesterday but Now today she has started bleeding again, only this time fairly heavy. It's leaving a fair bit on floor, and I'm having to clean her because it's down her legs etc morr of a dark red, some stringy/slight clotty bits
We have never had a female before so not sure if this is normal or not? Really worried about her though, she's looking so sad!

Try asking this question on a more specific forum? Petforums have a breeder's section, most of whom are really clued up. They don't tolerate bad breeding practice, but they are very good for people who genuinely need advice about their dog's welfare.

just give a vet a call. not sure if you can get sanitary panties on her (they do sell them for dogs) so that you can show the vet how much blood she is loosing.
it's been a while since i had a female dog in heat...it was messy and i generally restricted her to area's that cleaned up well or her kennel.
were you planning on breeding her?

Definitely call the vet. Heavy bleeding after 4 weeks isn't normal and if she's also lethargic and miserable she may have an infection.

With all of my bitches they have generally bled for around 10 days, then it tails off, followed by ovulation period and then the tail end of the season.

I've posted on dog forum but it's pretty late so no replies yet.
We were thinking about breeding her as she is a pedigree, good blood lines etc but to be honest I'm not sure I want to commit to it so will make the decision when the time comes.
I will also call vet tomorrow. We have only really noticed how heavy it is in the last couple of hours while she has been quiet and still. I probably wouldn't be so worried if she didn't look so fed up

I'd second calling the vet - it's some years since our rescue was spayed but my recollection is 10 days or so bleeding then being ready to mate, certainly not 4 weeks of bleeding.

Some dogs do spot for the whole 28 days. One of mine does, but it’s spotting not heavy bleeding. It lightens around days 11-15 then starts again fading away around day 24-28.

My worry would be pyometra as it stopped and started again. Although saying that maybe too soon... IIrc, pho is most likely to occur in the weeks post season. But is most frequent in mildly aged older bitches who’ve never had a litter... but one of ours got it at 5.5 weeks pregnant. It was awful. After all the planning (and ensuring everything was done correctly and responsibly) we nearly lost her and lost all 8 puppies (seen on scan the week before). It was incredibly upsetting.

Normally it’s pus. In our case foul smelling pus and blood (tho in a ‘closed’ pyo nothing comes out and is actually more dangerous) and a very lethargic and clearly ill dog.

Have you spoken to the vet yet?

Thanks for replies, we actually ended up at emergency vet on Saturday... she suddenly became very poorly on Saturday afternoon and could barely get herself up! After a £300 vet trip, antibiotics, pain relief and an extremely long and worrying night/day. She slept for about 48 hrs pretty much straight she was so poorly. She is now back to her normal self causing trouble and driving me crazy!

What was it that was wrong with her?

Hope she’s feeling better soon.
