Tasty dry dog food

Hi, Could you reccomend a dry dog food for a fussy dog? DD (10 months) is not a big eater and we have tried a few: pets at home own brand, Akela, Eden, Tails and she has been eating Guru for the last few months, but seems to have gone off it. We mix in a bit of wet dog food, egg, cooked carrot or sweet potato, and that helps encourage her, but I think it is time to try something new.
I have looked at quality ratings on All About Dog food, but am interested in tastiness, for a fussy dog.
I don't want to feed raw....

Have you tried wetting the kibble with some water in the bowl to make a sort of gravy?

If dog takes it wet then more about texture/moisture than flavour.

I've found that a few fussy dogs of family love arkela Suffolk duck. It is a working dog mix so may or may not suit yours.

Our two are on Skinners Light and Senior... We live in the village next to the mill. It helps we get mates rates as my friend works there!

Fish for Dogs every time! I've never known a dog who didn't like it. Can only be bought online and, although more expensive than more better known makes, is superior imo. Mine have had nothing else since I stopped raw feeding seven years ago, you can add a little warm water to start with if you want and the aroma is, well, v v fishy! Also the dogs poos are always normal and once a day

New Platinum Puppy food arrived and she is very excited by it. I suspect this will wear off but would like to make mealtimes more interesting as she is not very focused on food. Have been throwing pieces around the kitchen for her to chase. What else can I do? I will look into Fish4dogs.

Have you thought about raw?

My dog is on one called Bella and Duke and she wolfs it down every time.

Nice and easy. Just defrost, weigh out how much the dog needs and feed it in two meals. One in the morning and one in the evening

Raw is really not for me. I don't even cook meat for my children. I am a vegan, obviously I have chosen to have a carnivorous pet, but I really don't want to deal with raw meat.

Hate to tell you but my dog loved Platinum to start with but has now gone the way of all the others we have tried..although he does seem to like it when I open a new bag. I dream of having a dog that will eat the food as soon as it's put down to him and not just give it a sniff and walk off.

As for liking food and then going off it, this is why I buy 4 different flavours of millieswolfheart wet food. They are rotated every 2 days and therefore he doesn't go off them and we have no problems changing the flavours that frequently. After all I love fillet steak but after a couple of weeks of it I would probably prefer a change Grin

pupchewsleg · 15/01/2018 14:59

That makes sense Bitey. I think I will try that, mixed in with all the dry food I own that needs eating Grin

When my cocker spaniel was being a fussy madam, I used a tiny amount of salmon oil from www.fish4dogs.com which helped no end. Only about 1/2 a tsp per meal. I then gradually switched to olive oil as the salmon is expensive (only bought on sale) but so is wasted dog food. She happily eats millieswolfheart countryside mix with no problems at all. If she starts to get fussy, I will add a smear of coconut oil to the bottom of her bowl, under the kibble ;)
