Dog alone all day

Dsd has a dog at her house where she lives with her dm, however it has come out in conversation that this little dog is left alone all day every day from 7am to at least 7pm at night, and the dog is in a cage for this whole time! It's a terrier type dog that they've had since a pup, it's now 4. They don't take it for walks apart from once in a blue moon, it just gets let out in the garden. Dsd is a teen so we aren't getting the wrong end of the stick.

We had always been under the impression that her grandparents saw to the dog during the day as they live very close, but apparently they don't.
I can't sleep now thinking about that poor little dog, it's not right is it?

Dh has been instructed to ask if they want to drop the dog at our house during the day, but Dsd isn't keen, saying the dog nips and wouldn't be safe around our little ones, but I'm not surprised it nips it's probably frustrated!

I don't even know the point of this post, maybe just want confirmation I'm not being over the top thinking it's not fair on the dog.

Batteredfish that is a good idea. And I have no idea why they don't get a dog walker!

The thing is some people don't see the need (or the expense) to walk the dog and are happy to leave them all day. Other than offer to have the dog, which you have done, there isn't really anything anyone can do about it as they are still providing for the dogs basic needs whether you and I like it or not.

Dragongirl10 they can report it to RSPCA as much as they like but if they aren't leaving on its own for more than 24 hours and provide food, shelter and medical care they won't prosecute or rehome.
