Encouraging my landlady's dog not to jump

I’ve just moved into a mon-fri flatshare for work purposes. Landlady has a small dog - Yorkshire terrier cross. 18 months, daft and gorgeous. Problem is he jumps up constantly and I’ve already got scratched legs and wrecked tights after just one day. His owner is taking him to classes but I don’t think he’s learned much yet. He is walked 3x a day and he is well looked after, but jumpy. What can I do to at least keep him well behaved with me? He will sit on command but only for an instant, he gets right up again. His owner doesn’t call him off much. I don’t think she’d mind me being firm with him but I need to know what to do...

He jumps up - you turn around so your back is facing him, break eye contact and spend the next few mins totally ignoring him as if he is invisible. If he moves round in front of you and jumps again, you turn around again.

He doesn't jump up - you make a huge fuss of him.

Sooner or later, he'll 'get it'.

I still haven't mastered this with my flatmate's dog. I buy cheap (Primark) tights and only put them on just before I leave the house in the morning...
