Puppy collection countdown

We went to see a gorgeous litter of 5 puppies on the weekend and chose and reserved one of them.... but they are only 3 weeks old so we have to wait sooooo long to bring her home!
It's only been 3 days and it feels like 3 months.

How do you pass the time?
I've already bought just about everything she will need (and plenty more) and read as much as I can as this puppy has been over a year in the planning.

Anyone else waiting to be able to bring their puppy home?

Can't help I'm afraid. My dad bred my girl so I essentially had her from three days old.
Will the breeder let you visit regularly- that will help pup get used to you so it's not such a shock when you take it.

missbattenburg · 09/01/2018 21:29

This waiting period is just the worst.... it seemed to take forever for me between confirming with the breeder and then picking him up.

You fill the time by doing all the house jobs you wanted to get done in the next six months. Once the puppy arrives there will be NO time for sorting our the garage or painting the spare room or hanging shelves or servicing the car (or whatever). Get all those jobs done now so you don't have them hanging over you when the pup gets here.

Then fit in as many lie-ins as you can before it's too late Grin

VanessaShanessaJenkins · 09/01/2018 21:31

We are going to visit at least once more before collection but they live over an hour away so can't just pop round.

They will send photos and videos too- the breeders really are very lovely. It just feels like so long until we get her. It's like waiting for christmas all over again only longer and more exciting Grin

I feel for you OP, I know I'll be the exact same!

I'm currently waiting for my breeders dog to come in season, then we've got to wait to see if she's pregnant then pray that she has a girl for me Grin I'll be so anxious when she's due to give birth

CMOTDibbler · 09/01/2018 21:43

Buy a really warm dressing gown with a hood, some crocs, the worlds own supply of kitchen roll, the bulk pack of Simple Solution, and enjoy not waking up at 2am to stand in the garden. You might also like to practice leaping vertically from the sofa and sprinting to the back door while putting said crocs on.
Oh, and look under everything, and imagine yourself able to squeeze under/through tiny gaps with an urge to chew everything in sight.

I love my foster pups, I really do, but they are very hard work!

VanessaShanessaJenkins · 09/01/2018 21:47

I'm loving the suggestions Grin
My almost 4 year old and I have both had the lead attached to us and played 'puppy' so maybe I can rope her into some other puppy practise games.

Professor that's even worse!! I feel for you!

OP posts:
ProfessorPickles · 09/01/2018 22:01

Honestly I could cry, it's painful waiting. I potentially have a 3 month wait to know if my puppy exists Sad
Then the 8 week wait begins Grin nightmare!

Cath2907 · 10/01/2018 13:39

We too are playing the waiting game. Puppy not due home until 6th Feb... I have been dog proofing one room at a time. It is worse than baby-proofing! Hubby is making me hold off on buying stuff until the rooms are clear enough to fit it in!

Trufflethewuffle · 10/01/2018 14:04

With our litter back in the spring, one new owner was about 3 hours away so they used to FaceTime once a week to ooh and ah at him!

TropicPlunder · 10/01/2018 16:56

I'm getting our puppy on Friday! 3 months old(ish....from a shelter so don't know exactly). My 4 year old daughter has also been role playing puppy a lot...I think it helps to set ground rules! Not long to wait but it's really dragging

VanessaShanessaJenkins · 10/01/2018 19:01

Ooo Friday how exciting!

Our puppy's tag arrived today Grin

FaceTime sounds like a good idea! You don't think I'll come across a bit odd if I ask to FaceTime the puppy? 🙈

Dog proofing is something I need to do. We only moved in in August and consciously didn't buy new carpets, sofas etc because of our puppy plans. We'll change things once she's older. We also have the stairgate up because of DD.

Strawberryshortcake40 · 10/01/2018 19:10

We are waiting! Will pick up ours on 27th. Getting closer! Need to puppy proof the garden this weekend.

I feel really bad for the current dog, it's a bit like when I was pg with DD#2 and DD#1 was oblivious to how much her life was about to change.....Grin

Cath2907 · 11/01/2018 15:20

I was AMAZED at the amount of tiny beads, marbles and bits of lego that had escaped and were roaming free in the conservatory. That is where we are expecting pup to spend a lot of his daytime in the early weeks. It has a washable floor and easy access to the back door. It was full of kids toys and craft but all this is now in boxes in an ikea storage unit so puppy can't have himself a meal of paintbrush and lego men.

My next room to address is the office (washable floor, all day me and easy access to the front door. This is all wires and cables and needs me to spend 10 mins on my hands and knees working out what dog can reach. This is where we expect his cage to go overnight as it is the warmest room in the house at night. He may well be in here during the day a lot if hubby isn't around to supervise him in the conservatory.

Then I need to crawl the living room, kitchen and downstairs loo to check there is nothing doggy dangerous there. For now he won't be allowed in the DDs room at all or upstairs without close supervision so these are lower priority for dog proofing.

This dog thing is hard work and he doesn't arrive for weeks!

TropicPlunder · 12/01/2018 13:28

I have mine! She's settling in well and happy with her new bed

VanessaShanessaJenkins · 12/01/2018 16:56

Awww thanks for the pic. Welcome to your new home little doggy Grin
We've been out buying yet more things for puppy despite the fact we really don't need anything else 🙈
And we've just been sent a little video of puppy playing with her brothers and sister.

It's not even a week until tomorrow that we met her! Why is time going so slowly?

Here's one of my foster pups - 7 weeks old now and 6.1kg!

TropicPlunder · 12/01/2018 17:36

Ooh sweet! What kind is that one, Dibbler ?

Wolfiefan · 12/01/2018 17:38

Oh Dibbler! That makes me puppy broody! Grin

CMOTDibbler · 12/01/2018 18:16

We don't know - mum came into rescue with them pretty much newborn (10 of them at the time!) and she's a smooth coated lurcher. The girl is bright as a button and pretty much housetrained now as she'll go to the back door, ring the bells, and wait for you to get there

gailforce1 · 12/01/2018 20:05

Dibbler - she is adorable! Do you keep them till they go to their new owners?

CMOTDibbler · 12/01/2018 20:46

Yes, they've both been reserved, so just over a week till they've had their first vacs and been microchipped and they can go at 8 1/2 weeks. Not that I'm counting down the days, but running to the back door so much is doing great things for my diet!

VanessaShanessaJenkins · 27/01/2018 22:12

I'm back Grin
We went to visit the puppy today as it's been 3 weeks since we first met her. Right it would help with the whole waiting thing! It was lovely seeing her and cuddling all the little pups but now I feel so sad. It was horrible having to leave without her again 😢 . It doesn't help I don't think that we don't have an actual collection date either and the breeders said they are keeping them until they have had 2nd jabs and about 12 weeks old. That's so long away.

We picked ours up yesterday

Are they a small/toy breed as know often recommended they stay with mum until 12 weeks
