Dog hates being chased

I have a 5 y/o collie/fox terrier rescue. Been with us since she was 4 months old. Very bright, walked daily - I work from Home so rarely on her own, well trained, great recall and socialised young and fine with other dogs EXCEPT if the chase her.

She's very fixated on bAll chasing and loves it to the exclusion of any other kind of play. If another, strange dog starts to chase after her though, it really narks her. She tries to avoid but some dogs don't get the message (and nor do their owners) and she can round on them.

To deal with this, if I see her getting stressed, I call her to me and get her to sit calmly whilst explaining to the owner that she doesn't like being chased. This usually works except if other owners don't recall their dogs and continue to allow them to worry her which is obviously a pain in the arse.

I put a 'nervous' collar and lead on her to warn other owners. This is something that seems to have developed over the past year or two and I just wondered if anyone else has experience of this sort of behaviour and do you have any suggestions/recommendations/tips?

Does she come back when she's being chased?
If so, lead up and walk away.

Oh I get a lot of this OP. "He just likes chasing dogs with balls"...well mine doesn't like being chased. Can't say I blame him tbh.

Does your dog snap or is it just noise? With mine he will put up with it once or twice but then round on them with a terrible sounding snarl...No teeth (wild horses won't get that ball out of his mouth if he's holding it). I just let it happen as the other dogs owner will usually do this face Shock and recall their dog sharpish. But we have the advantage that he's fast and can outrun most other dogs for the ball. If he's not looking and they get it first he just stands looking worried as well.

I'm quite firm with people now and just say "He doesn't like it can you call your dog away please." Only a few are persistent. But most get know and recall when they see us coming. I find parks are awful for this so I walk in fields and woods where all the antisocial dog owners nod and then ignore each other!

Sounds to me as though you are handling it pretty well.
