When did you stop taking your puppy outside in the middle of the night

Dpup is now 12 weeks old. We always put him in his crate for the night at around 10:30pm, and I set an alarm at 3am to take him outside for a wee. We then let him out of his crate for the morning at around 6:30am and he has breakfast at 7:00am.

He always wees when I take him out, but it's not as if at 3am he is awake or crying to be let out. I don't want to make him uncomfortable at night, but I was wondering when other puppy owners dropped the middle of the night wake up calls, and left their pups to sleep through?

Every 2 weeks I would extend the time I left him between toilet breaks. So if I got up at 6am and I was waking him at 2am then in two weeks time I would wake him at 1:30am and then in another two weeks 1:00 am. Eventually we got to a point where I would do a toilet break before I went to sleep then not again until morning.

A little different for me because he slept in my room and woke me when he needed to go. He was in the crate between 10.30pm-7.30am

For the first week he woke me 2-3 times a night.
The second week was 1-2 times a night.
The third week 0-1 times a night.
By week four he slept through reliably with just one occasion when he wasn't well and needed to get up for a poo in the night.

I got him at 8.5 weeks old.

Thanks both. I will try leaving him for a bit longer each couple of weeks, that's a good idea. Smile

I didn't set an alarm to let mine out, just waited for a bark, but I think both my dogs were sleeping all night at around 11 or 12 weeks.Obviously it will depend on the dog size, breed, etc. Ideally leave him to sleep and just see when he wakes, but if you can't do this then I would put the alarm half an hour later every few days (personally I think doing it every 2 weeks is too long to wait as they change so quickly at this age).
