Staffy owners- tops please?

How much exercise does your staffy or similar sized dog get every day?

Also how often do you bath them?

Is there any helpful tips you'd give to a new owner?

Any specific products you'd recommend for the breed?

Autocorrect got me. The title should read "tips please?"

We have two staffies, pretty elderly now, but in their prime they needed a lot of exercise. They're very energetic and intelligent dogs and need a lot of stimulation. We walked them three times a day, lots of off-lead exercise. They are the most utterly delightful creatures, though. Good luck!

SolidHair · 30/12/2017 22:13

Oh, and we never bath them unless they've rolled in something disgusting!

Ooh, I've already got a lab but we've been thinking of rescuing a staffy within the next couple of years, so watching with interest.

Not a staffie specific tip, but PestDog does get a rinse / stood in warm water whenever he's too filthy from his walks. It's frequent enough that I just use water because if I used shampoo that often he'd get skin problems.

Putting an equafleece coat on does, however, catch a lot of the dirt (he's low to the ground and tends to get his chest caked in mud) and means that I often only have to do his paws.

My staffie is an old lady so doesn't do much walking or exercise or moving off the sofa!

She gets bathed about once a year which is traumatic event for everyone involved.

Not sure on helpful tips but a warning...they fart like nothing else in this world 😷

Bath once a monthish (he likes it).
Lots of playing and mental stimulation - they are fairly bright and need channelling. Mine loves learning new tricks even though he’s middle aged. They can be stubborn though so sometimes just do their own thing.
They chew. Hard. Don’t bother with 90% of the toys in the shop, they just get destroyed. Kong extreme and nylabone are the way to go!

Great stuff so far thank you!

I've not let her off the lead yet, her recall isn't 100% but we are working on it.

It's good to know about the toys, we bought her some balls yesterday but they've all been destroyed already. I'll nip to the shop later and ask for those ones.

Unfortunately you are too late warning me about the farts. I was caught right behind one yesterday , it wafted straight at me... I was nearly sick. I have invested in a few more scented candles since then though.
