Dog with upset stomach

Mol1628 · 23/12/2017 08:16

Yesterday I stupidly gave my dog a new chew, just a small Dentastix type thing, she ate her tea as normal but this morning she’s done a sloppy poo and has refused breakfast, asked to go out and eat grass. I offered her one of her treats and she dropped it. Then reluctantly ate it, which is unusual.
What do I need to do now? :/ will it settle on it’s own. Obviously I’ll take her to the vets if she gets worse.
She must have a really sensitive stomach. Feel stupid for giving her the chew now. Guess I shouldn’t feed those anymore.

Our dog is sensitive to some of the chews, it’s not uncommon. Starve your dog for 24 hours and then introduce boiled rice and chicken. See how she is and gradually reintroduce her normal food. I hope she’s soon better.

Thank you I’ll try that : )

I’ve now got a full box of these chews. If I introduce slower could she still have them or is it better just to get rid all together (im aware they have no benefit to teeth really they were just for a treat)

I really wouldn’t give them to her. I think some dogs are just sensitive to the ingredients in these chews, our dog definitely is.

She seems better today she’s done a small but solid poo. Didn’t feed her yesterday but I gave her a small amount of breakfast and she’s had a little bit so think she’s feeling a bit better. Hopefully. She’s stopped eating grass anyway.

Good news. 🐾

My dog has a sensitive tummy. We have managed ti find a food he is fine on but if he eats something he shouldn't.....chews, leaves, grass etc he has a day where he just looks unhappy and has awful jelly like poo. I've been to the vet about it and they say as long as it settles after a day, which it always does, they wouldn't do much about it.

We avoid the majority of chews now but he loves antlers. They are pricey but he still has his ones from last xmas so they are worth it.

Thanks she’s much better today.

Oo she has an antler! She really loves it so think I won’t bother with any of he treat type chews anymore.

Isoukdnt risk giving her another. Do as recommended & keep her on plain boiled rice & skinless chicken for a day or two.
I always keep a tube of Promax in the cupboard for the odd stomach upset, you can buy it online from the vet product suppliers like Vet UKor Petmed, the vets sell it but much cheaper online.
One of mine has IBD & is on medication but sometimes she needs a bit of extra help in a flare up

Glad your dog is feeling better but fwiw I don’t think starving them is recommended anymore .

Thanks I will look for the probiotic. Seems she’s very sensitive.
She’s eaten her tea as normal (chicken and rice) and seems back to normal, no more diarrhoea. Phew. Was worried she was going to be poorly over Christmas.
Thanks for the advice.
