Educating owners on dog behaviour.

Hi everybody, I'm a Anthrozoology student who is keen to find out the importance of educating owners on dog behaviour. The time this survey will take, depends on how much or little you know, or how much you detail you chose to go in. it is just a questionnaire to explain if you know what certain behavioural issues are, and how to solve them. I would really appreciate your time and effort to participate in my research. My ethics page will explain to you how your personal information is disclosed, and how I plan to use the data.

For any one interested, please visit. surveymonkey.co.uk/r/8K5W8QC

Kind regards, and have a nice Christmas!

You need to make that a clicky link.

I followed the link and wanted to help but, honestly, asking for an essay is a bit much Smile.

When all your questions are 'please describe' it takes too much time to do and people won't bother. Especially 2 days before Xmas when they have so much else going on. By the time xmas is over your post will have been lost to time.

If you need help from folks then you need to make it as easy as possible for them:

  • make the link clickable
  • make the questions multiple choice

Also, Q8 is misleading to me. As a student of animal behaviour you will already know that it is impossible to do all training with just positive reinforcement because even the lack of reinforcer for an incorrect behaviour is punishing. Some people use a marker for a wrong behaviour (e.g. the word no), that could be seen a positive punisher.

I think what you might be aiming at is checking whether people know that training without aggressive/confrontational punishments is important. Might be worth checking the wording on that q. This is where multiple choice might be useful - e.g. 'Which do you believe is the most effective training method? a) telling a dog off when he does something wrong b) rewarding a dog when he does something right'

You might even include more options for that question, such as one about applying pack dynamics because lots of people still believe in those and this could show out how many.

Anyway, that's just my feedback (and reasons why I haven't done the survey).
