Dog friendly holiday cottages. Please recommend!

I know it's probably been done a lot and I can (have and will) Google but I'm looking for personal experiences and recommendations.

DH and I are looking to go to Cornwall in May next year for a week with our springer/ collie cross. We are looking for somewhere with an enclosed private garden but it doesn't matter what size. Parking is a must too.

Ideally we would love somewhere off lead too for him to chase his ball and we would like to be within walking distance of a year round Dog friendly beach. A quieter area would be preferable but not far from a village etc for coffee and cake!

Our lovely boy is doing really well ( adopted from DT in September) but is nervous lead reactive ( a dream dog off lead). We had a short trip to Yorkshire in November which was fab but it was a lodge round a lake and open plan areas so he needed to be on lead even for a quick wee.

We don't mind but would prefer an enclosed garden this time particularly if the weather is nice enough to sit out.

Thanks in advance ...

P.S Usually lurk but love reading about you DDogs

I haven't been but I like the look of bed and basket in Cornwall. They have enclosed patio's with an outside tap. Dogs can go on the furniture providing you use the throws. They have a field outside you can exercise them on too.

bunnygeek · 13/12/2017 09:34

Lots of dog friendly ones here:

Look up air BnB "mawla" near redruth. It is a tiny but beautiful log cabin, with everything you need. Set in a stunning 2 acre woodland garden that the dog can go off lead in. The owners have 2 little terriers, so as long as your dog is reasonably ok with others it would be fine.

ButFirstTea · 13/12/2017 09:43

You can search on airbnb for pet friendly properties. I've not tried Cornwall but I've use it to book a lovely cottage just outside of York for a couple of days after Christmas for me, my boyfriend and our puppy!

Doesn't meet the wish for walking distance of a beach, but can't recommend these cottages enough:

We stayed in Hetty's last year - fabulously comfy bed and sofa, all beautifully set up, really lovely. Totally secure garden, and there is also a field you can walk dogs in. The Camel Trail is a short drive away.

MaxatAgincourt · 13/12/2017 09:51

Thanks @Bunnygeek. A couple of those are on my shortlist .

I am hoping to find one that is not part of a complex too. I'm probably being too picky!!

Replied before I saw the other messages!

Thank you @Whitney168 . Just what I am looking for! The walk to beach is a wishlist ideal but depends on the right acccomadation . How close are the properties to each other?

@Eryri1981 thanks will take a look. DDog goes to daycare a couple of times a month and is great there and when out off lead walking. He only reacts if he is on a lead. We are working on it but don't want him to be anxious while we are away so just trying to minimise triggers.

Thank you @ButFirstTea

We stayed about 15 miles out of York last month. Had a lovely time Smile

Lots here - if you have specific requirements you can specify them. It saves a lot of wading through ones that won't take enough dogs or don't have your dates!

Hope this works! 23 had a lovely stay here in the summer with our then 7 month old puppy, enclosed garden and parking and lovely hosts.

We not 23 Confused

MaxatAgincourt · 13/12/2017 11:02

Thanks @Dottymum2 and @Elphame

Sent request to FB group and hadn't really thought of Devon as DH wanted to try Cornwall. Doesn't really matter to me.

It's not very often we have childfree week so really wanting to make the most of it and have found that lots are already booked up as it's half term week.

We visit Cornwall every year with our dog. Not affiliated with this company but book through falmouthholidayhomes.co.uk
Great service, and a lot of their properties are dog friendly.

MaxatAgincourt · 13/12/2017 12:14

Loving the recommendation. Please keep them coming. So many are already booked up Shock

Both of these facebook sites have some dog friendly accommodation listed.

If you book via Airbnb or HomeAway, or any other agency, you will pay a service/booking fee of between 10 and 15%. Always book direct with the owner for the best price.

Woolacombe bay hotel in north Devon has self catering apartments - the ground floor ones are all dog friendly. The beach is a dog paradise there (but the apartments might be too busy for your dog- you get your own front patio though.

Cottages are well spread out across the farm - Hetty's is the first one in, with solid fencing all around garden. A couple of the others had lower fences around a courtyard, I think, so probably best thing to do is talk to the owner and check what would suit you best. She was lovely too.

JaneEyre70 · 17/12/2017 22:21

We stayed at Gara Rock last year in Devon, our spaniel absolutely loved it as you could follow the coastal path for miles in either direction, or there was a heavenly walk down to the beach at Salcombe through NT ancient woodland. The gardens aren't enclosed as such but we didn't have any bother with ours. He swam in the sea every day, had 2 long walks a day and didn't want to come home Grin. They also have an amazing cafe/restaurant on site that you can take your dog in, so we had breakfast in there most days.

gailforce1 · 19/12/2017 20:48

Have a look at Wainsford Riverside Cottages. Owned and run by dog people each cottage has an enclosed garden and there is a fenced paddock for exercising off lead. Good dog washing and drying facilities and plenty of towels provided. www.wainsford.com
They are not within walking distance of a beach but will advise on dog friendly beaches closeby.

BiteyShark · 19/12/2017 20:59

Place marking as we have one dog friendly holiday lined up but looking for a second so will come back later to view the recommendations Grin

MaxatAgincourt · 19/12/2017 21:29

We have just booked a cottage in Devon recommended by friends. Thank you for all your suggestions. Will still keep checking back for any other trips we take Smile
