Dog resuscitated today

My spaniel got caught by the collar in a fence today. He pulled and pulled until he effectively throttled himself and passed out - or died. By a complete freak of fate a vet happened to be walking on the same path; and stopped to help. She gave him mouth to mouth and bought him back round.

We took him to the vet, who checked him over and said he was fine - just gave him some anti-inflammatories to help with bruising on neck.

So worried about him now and any after effects. Does anybody have any experience of anything similar? Anything I should watch out for with him? Not sure how I'm going to sleep tonight - feel I ought to be watching him.

He seems fine in himself btw - has eaten a huge supper and is now snoring happily in his basket.

Oh God, that must have been horrible! It's so lucky the vet was there. How long was it between his breathing becoming really restricted and getting the rescue breaths? I should imagine you have around 5 minutes before brain damage. And unless the vet had to do chest compressions his heart would have still been beating so he didn't die. Just keep an eye on him over the next few days to be sure he's behaving normally. I should imagine he'll be absolutely fine though.

I honestly can't believe the luck. The god of dogs was watching over him today. It sounds like he was unconscious / not breathing for less than a minute before the mouth to mouth and he came back round. Such a close call. Almost don't dare let myself believe he will be okay.

Blimey, glad he's ok, poor thing.

I think I'd be leaving him without a collar from now on. I don't see many spaniels with collars where I live (we have a lot in this town) as they are a bit fast/wandery and push themselves into all sorts of tight spaces.
