Puppy refusing food

Dpup has just hit 6mths & has gone right off her kibble. I'm not worried about her appetitive - she's hanging out for tastier treats 😬

We clicker train and have been mixing up her regular kibble with higher value rewards for the 'gambling' effect, but she's taken to spitting it out! So what do I do? Now that I've written this I can see that the most obvious thing is cutting out any other morsels...BUT we're working so hard on recall etc that I really want to get her excited! Any thoughts?

Mine went through many stages of ignoring his food. I tried to mix his kibble with scrambled egg, a bit of cheese etc and he would start to eat it but then 'go off it' again.

After experimenting I have found that mine just doesn't get excited enough over kibble after all. What I have found is that he loves wet food as it's tastier and smellier but even then I have to alternate flavours so he doesn't get bored eating the same thing day in day out. I now give him 70% wet and 30% kibble (for crunch) and he is so excited he does an excited spin as you put his bowl down which he NEVER did with just kibble.

Ha ha to the excited spin! She used to get excited over this food but of course has now discovered a whole new world of roast chicken, sausages etc!!! Annoying, as of course it's helpful to be able to use her meal portions as training rewards, which I wouldn't be able to do if feeding wet 😬 She's gone without breakfast this morn, so hopefully we'll muster up some enthusiasm when I take her out in a little while....

Try a different kibble? A different flavour might do the trick. Elfpup came weaned on to two flavours of the same brand so he had variety right from the start.

We are now on wet food too now.

Whenever mine got to a tricky stage with food I'd add grated cheese as Bitey said. I've also poured a little warm water on dried food for a very young dog and, for one really fussy one, I resorted to buying crappy wet food from a supermarket and adding grated cheese. All my dogs have eventually become quite pig like with food and have all eventually bee on the good quality dry food I choose.
Oh and another thing I've done is given a raw chicken wing, havent met a dog who didn't enjoy chicken

I’m guessing your DPup isn’t a Labrador! Grin

My dog goes through phases and will quite often skip meals. He's not terribly excited by kibble but I'm ok with that, he gets the odd thing mixed through and his chicken for training but his breed has a real tendency to be overweight so I'd rather he wasn't uber interested in his meals. We got a new pup a couple of months ago and that has definitely healed him gobble up his dinner a bit quicker!

Is it possible she's coming in to season? My dog went right off her food when she did and she normally is a gannet!
