Muppup's first Christmas

Okay so I know this is faintly ridiculous but it's Muppup's first Christmas (with us anyway) and I want to make it special!

Obvs I'm going to get her a stocking, new toys and treats, but what other things do you all do with yours to make it special? We're veggies so there'll be no turkey for her sadly, we don't give her much in the way of human food as she's terrible for begging, so I'm thinking a tin of Lily's Kitchen Christmas Dinner might be nice. I also want to get her some Christmas pyjamas but DH is Hmm about the idea.

Afraid you lost me at the pyjamas🙄 I am going to stuff her Kong with veg and small amount of turkey and then wrap it in several layers of paper...she will have great fun extracting it and then getting out the contents keeping her from under my feet as I dish up Christmas dinner!
Hopefully my adult children will bring her a new toy each and my mother is knitting her a Christmas pudding soft ball because she fell in love with their cats one when visiting last time.😀

Pyjamas???? It's a dog, it doesn't know it's Christmas. My dog will get some veg from the roast...same as every Sunday dinner

BiteyShark · 22/11/2017 08:34

We got BiteyDog at the end of November last year so our first Christmas wasn't relaxing due to the joys of puppy training. This year I hope to enjoy it as he is now a lovely adult dog. I have new toys and some special treats but to make it special I was going to take him for a long walk with lots of ball play in the morning before we all stuff ourselves of food so he is suitable happy to crash out with us in front of the tv for the rest of the day Grin

I know the pyjamas are totally ridiculous, and she doesn't have any other clothes you'll be pleased to know, but they were just so damned cute! I like the idea of wrapping her Kong in paper, she'd love that, thank you Coco

  • Personalised Christmas Eve plate?
  • Definitely lots of wrapping paper
  • A really good Christmas day walk
  • a dog friendly advent calendar

We've just bought ours a lovely new dog bed for Christmas - they'll need a new one anyway and we've just decorated the living room so need a new bed to suit.

Just a bit of caution, sometimes swapping food can lead to an upset stomach, depending on the dog and the foods.

I'm concentrating on surviving - it'll be pup's first holiday season. I'm planning on putting the tree inside a play pen but haven't got much further than that. I expect he'll get some goose for his lunch though. He's fed on fresh meat so he should be fine with it.

Floralnomad · 22/11/2017 09:33

My dog always has wrapped Christmas presents from the family as he loves unwrapping so far he’s got a new blanket , a new monkey rope toy and a big bag of gravy bones . I’d be wary of feeding your dog the Lily’s kitchen if you don’t usually feed that food as you will probably end up with a dog with wind and or an upset stomach over Christmas . My dog has cooked meat on his dinner everyday so Christmas from a food POV is no different .

LaBelleSausage · 22/11/2017 09:33

Just a word of advice - if you get a doggie advent calendar, prepare yourself for heartbreak on Boxing Day when it's all gone and DDog doesn't understand what she's done wrong and why she isn't now getting her daily treat.
We didn't think this part through the first time!

We also do a nice tin of Lily's kitchen for Christmas dinner, plus DDog has a stocking, a new bed (she needs it anyway) and a bulk order of tennis balls to last the year, along with some slightly fancier chews.
Nearer the time we'll also get her a stuffed bone (you can get them with festive fillings in pets at home) as a kong substitute on the day

DDog is getting a tin of Lily's Kitchen three bird roast and a pet Santa hat that I picked up in B&M for £1 (admittedly that's more a present for us than him!) Might get him a new toy too

CMOTDibbler · 22/11/2017 16:02

Ours get new squeaky balls, chews and this year are having a new dog bed. As ours wear coats anyway, I'm making them snowflake fabric ones for December and they have christmas collars and bandanas.

Cocobananas · 22/11/2017 17:41

Ooh, I have been thinking I might get her a Christmas bandana...been such a good girl today until 4pm when she rolled in Fox poo. She has managed to get it all around her eyes and ears so it’s not like I can hose her. I have done best I can with brush and comb but I am off out for an hour or two and DH will have to put up with the smell! Bandana cancelled☹️

Mupflup · 22/11/2017 19:55

I like the idea of a Christmas collar or bandana, she's definitely more likely to suffer that than pyjamas! She's a bit of a weird one and doesn't like balls or rubber toys so there'll no doubt be more small cuddlies to add to her collection. She does love a blanket so maybe a Christmas blanket too
