Ours (collie X) insists on shutting the kitchen door behind him with his nose before we can go out the back door for a walk. He also likes to drink out of a particular flower pot in the garden but is afraid of the watering can so paws at it to be filled, runs to the other side of the garden and comes back when it's full...

Oh thanks for this thread! I came here to post my own for advice (which I'll do in a mo).

We rehomed a lovely dog a month ago and she's still a bit of an enigma, tbh. She absolutely will not pee or poo in the garden unless ill (upset tummy) and can hold her pee for literally 14 hours or more. She's no idea about toys - but we had a breakthrough with 'chase a Kong' today in the garden - is food obsessed and willing to work for treats but I don't know how we'll move to the non-treat version of obeying commands as she's pretty stubborn - in a lovely way, but still.

Oh and she's nutty as fuck about squirrels. I know, I know... but seriously nutty. She's a Lab-cross so not tiny & was halfway up a tree before she admitted defeat to gravity. And the noise! She has a specific squirrel bark!

My Lhasa apso goes mad at other dogs on the tv.
Hates having her harness put on, she will hide under the sofa if she sees you lifting it, then when you get it on she stands completely still
When we are sitting at the table eating she comes up and taps your arm and looks at you then the food until you give her some.
She loves hiding treats for later, under cushions, behind the curtain, in our bed.
I love her lol.

imnottoofussed · 17/11/2017 22:47

Ddog has some similar traits. He stands frozen still when the harness is put on until I pick the lead up, then he drags me to the front door. On our return he will walk through the front hall into the kitchen then freeze again until I take the harness off.

He also likes to stick his backside up walls or trees when pooing but only when out for a walk. Twice this week on walks I’ve had to pick up poo suck about 6 inches up a brick wall Confused

He also likes to sleep on my slippers. Often he trots over as soon as I put my feet up on the sofa as the slippers are then empty on the floor.

He howls at sirens or ice cream vans.

He will also paw you or snort at you if you stop stroking him and he wants you to carry on.

He collects a mouth full of dry food from his bowl in the kitchen and brings it into the hall or lounge then drops it before eating it.

And he likes sleeping on his back under the sofa cushions.

Basically he’s not a full shilling Grin

Labradormama

My lab boy does exactly the same to everyone other than my youngest,as he tried it once and could not work out why he was not able go through .While we howeld with laughter as he completley lifted Ds of his feet as ds to short

HandbagCrazy · 18/11/2017 19:18

Ddog1 is generally quite normal, aside from
Making random groaning noises that are not related to anything. She does them when running, siting, lying, having a fuss, eating etc.

Ddog2 however, is v odd. He eats his biscuits every day but putting 3 or 4 in his mouth, carrying them to his bed, spitting them out then eating them one by one - stopping to pick up every crumb after each one. It takes him ages Confused
If he is sat and you tell him to lie down, he goes up on his back legs and sinks backwards, so if he’s against furniture, he looks like a meerkat and if he isn’t, he just falls on to his back.
He’s terrified of our one living room door. If it’s closed tight or wide open he’s fine,
But it ifs halfway between, he won’t go near it but will growl his head off if the wind pushes it slightly Hmm

KinkyAfro · 18/11/2017 19:27

Greets everyone at the door with something in her mouth, whatever's nearest to her so could be a toy, shoe, cushion. This morning she answered the door to my mum with a tea towel

BiteyShark · 19/11/2017 07:22

Waits outside the shower so he can lick you dry Sad

@Ohffsmalcom what does it mean that as soon as either DH or I come she is all over the person who had been home all day with them (and perviously ignored due to sleeping)?

I am def top ranking as in the mornings if I’m up first I duly get ignored and she plods around downstairs no fuss etc. However if I stay in bed and anyone else gets her up she races to find me and I get smothered in her undying affection Confused

Also as I’m sat downstairs on the sofa and no-one is up she’s snuggled up with me but if I started pottering she’d be off to get into bed with someone! Long and short is no sleep in for me ever...

RandomMess · 19/11/2017 09:03

Come home that is!! I get greeted with huge excitement at the door then she throws herself at DH and sits on his lap...

Ylvamoon · 19/11/2017 09:12

I had a dog that would sit in front of the oven, whenever I roasted a chicken.... she sat to attention was dribbling with excitement but she gracefully accepted her fate of it was fed to the resident humans.

Nifflerbowtruckle · 19/11/2017 09:29

My dog before eating will sometimes grab a piece of food run into the living room and eat it then run back to her bowl and start eating properly. She’s also started taking four pieces of food out of her bowl and lining them up nicely on the floor and eating what’s in her bowl. When she’s finished she’ll then eat the pieces she put on the floor.

fleshmarketclose · 19/11/2017 09:51

When Eric shares your biscuit he always drops the first piece he's given, eats all the subsequent pieces immediately and then eats the first piece when your biscuit is finished Hmm He couldn't be clever enough to have figured out how to guarantee him getting more than half could he? Hmm

RandomMess · 19/11/2017 10:22

How could I forget ddog rejects all biscuits/treats offered by other people, yes she has learnt that they have some better!!! After ignoring first few attempts and continuing either her “I’m starved eye pleading routine” she will then eventually gobble up previously rejected treats! The charity shop staff are truly trained and now let her have the best treats only after one time giving her bacon bites!

rightsaidfrederickII · 19/11/2017 10:36

He believes that all takeaway delivery mopeds should be delivering to him personally. When they don't, he gets really quite upset and barks / tries to chase

He always sleeps on the bed. But it's often not just on the bed, it's in the bed, under the duvet, and ideally as close to me as possible - I've lost count of how many times I've woken up with him between my legs! Hmm Grin

If there's another dog he can't get to (e.g. other side of the road) but he wants to say hello to it, he'll eventually start barking and straining at the lead (yep, because making yourself look vicious is totally going to get that dog to come to you) Hmm

And I'm pretty sure he lives to embarrass me at training classes!

ScaryMonstersAndSuoerCreeps · 19/11/2017 10:40

Bumbledog has to get under the blanket or duvet..... Then overheats and harumphes loudly!!!

noitsnotteatimeyet · 19/11/2017 11:29

My dog has two water bowls, one in the kitchen and one in the garden. ‘Outside’ water is apparently absolutely delicious and always preferable to ‘inside’ water, even when the water in the identical stainless steel bowls has come from the same tap at the same time so must taste identical Hmm

hometownunicorn · 19/11/2017 13:06

Love these. Dogs can be very odd.

My dog sometimes growls at chews and won’t eat them. But if you put them inside one of his Kong toys, he loves them. It’s like he’ll only chew if we provide him with a convenient holder.

He also has a particular spot in the garden where he likes to chew things, and has worn a patch in the grass from sitting there. But maybe that’s just a habit.

ItsNachoCheese · 19/11/2017 13:38

hometownunicorn i have 2 patches of grass in my front garden that are now holes as nachodog likes to eat the grass well now muck lol

DailyMailDontStealMyThread · 19/11/2017 15:48

I normally feed Ddog whilst I’m in the kitchen cooking. But if I don’t do that —because we are having takeaway— she will remove 1 biscuit at a time from the bowl walk into the lounge and eat it at my feet Grin

weegiemum · 19/11/2017 18:44

Weegiedog has sophisticated tastes - he loves olives and camembert!

LittlePearl · 19/11/2017 20:47

Goes mad when the 'bongs' chime at the start of Radio 4's 6pm news bulletin.

Chatters his teeth very loudly when he's excited.

Loves watching tele - he's glued to Blue Planet right now.

Wrongornot · 19/11/2017 23:12

Mine sleeps with a horse Blush

What are your dog's strange little foibles?
Cocobananas · 21/11/2017 18:35

PP, bless, mine likes to sleep cuddled up to my nightie...without me in it😁
Cocodog has a thing about kindling wood, will nick it when DH is chopping it up ready for wood burner so I have taught her in recent weeks to give me kindling wood piece by piece from the old coal scuttle on command. She is very keen because after we have done our job she gets her supper and then collapses in front of said fire.

missyB1 · 21/11/2017 18:38

Mine makes a loud woooo noise when she wants to chat to us or when she’s excited, it’s not a howl it’s a definite woooo Grin

She also sticks her bum right up high in the air before she lies down!
