Dogs around the house

Just wondered how much range of the house posters on MN let their dogs have and how well does your dog behave? Grin

At the moment she's only allowed upstairs/ on sofa when invited. On the sofa invited I don't think will ever change but the upstairs thing I'm not so sure about.

Our dogs were allowed upstairs growing up but my parent's current dog isn't.

I think I've picked up notions of what is right on wrong that isn't based on any fact but just what I'm used to!

What do you all do? I'm nosey

Just noticed there's 2 threads. I'll report the other one!

We are currently integrating ddog x4 into the house after being banished to the utility and out side. We used to live on a farm and they had a totally different way of life. Trying to change it.
2 in so far and it's going well with them!!

Ropsleybunny · 16/11/2017 16:32

My dog is never allowed upstairs or on the sofa. She knows where she stands, so never attempts either. It's up to the individual but that way the dog hair is contained Grin. I hate the idea of the dog on my bed. She's a clean dog but smells like a dog and I'd hate to sleep in a bed that smells like a dog.

Floralnomad · 16/11/2017 16:33

Our dog goes wherever he wants except when we are out and overnight when we shut off the kitchen so he can’t sit and bark at the patio doors . He is allowed on all the furniture and sleeps with ds in a double bed or on his own when ds is out .

Battleax · 16/11/2017 16:33

Upstairs is far easier to enforce than sofa, IME.

RandomMess · 16/11/2017 16:34

Our dog has free roam but crates at night and when we go out mainly because we have cats and she is a JRT

Swizzlesticks23 · 16/11/2017 16:34

I have four dogs.

Our dogs sleep in our beds.

Say what you will I love them.

I don't let them upstairs whilst I'm at work though the littlest likes to wee on my rugs to mock me !

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 16/11/2017 16:34

Can you read my post before it's deleted 😀

LaBelleSausage · 16/11/2017 16:37

DDog is allowed in the living room but now only supervised as we have just got a new sofa and DH luffs it more than her Sad
I don’t agree with this and don’t understand what he thinks she might do.

She’s allowed in the kitchen and utility room with no supervision and in DH’s office, but not in the kids playroom ever in case someone comes round who is a bit precious about their baby.
She is also not allowed upstairs, or in the chickens’s fenced off pet of the garden

LaBelleSausage · 16/11/2017 16:39

The main reason I couldn’t have her upstairs is that it would absolutely kill our sex life.
I’d never want to go near DH if doggy snuggles were an available alternative! Wink

jellytott · 16/11/2017 16:41

Our dog goes wherever he wants too except when we are out and he goes in the kitchen with the door shut in his bed. At night he is sleeps in our beds. He is allowed on all the furniture aswell. Smile

Crabbo · 16/11/2017 16:43

Ours is allowed wherever he likes and sleeps in the bed with us. He was originally crated at night but I felt sorry for him as I worked in the day then and thought he needed the extra company, now I’m a sahm but it’s too late now haha. He’s only a chihuahua though so doesn’t make a mess or anything - my mum has a spaniel that’s allowed free reign and I can’t stand the mud and mess she leaves so I think it’s a bit dependent on the dog.

roundtable · 16/11/2017 16:48

Sorry ThroughThickandThin, I got detracted by the children and didn't read it! Blush

Dogs are allowed free range on beds & sofas when we are at home, and the little dog sleeps in my bed. Other dog sleeps on sofa in DD's room. As DGreyhound is a destroyer, when we are out they are on lock-down in the kitchen, stairs and landing where there are no tempting books or newspapers to rip to shreds! Grin

roundtable · 16/11/2017 16:53

Dh is desperate to let her upstairs but I'm reluctant due to the hair thing.

But I'm starting to think I'm being mean as they are telling me I am.

Our downstairs is very open plan - no doors at all which is why we crate her when out/asleep but she slept upstairs in the spare room with dh last week as I've been unwell and they were like 2 peas in a pod. Hmm

OP posts:
fleshmarketclose · 16/11/2017 16:56

Eric has free rein of the downstairs,he never lies on the floor if there is a sofa and he sits on the dining table if we go out. He isn't allowed upstairs but there are no gates or crates here and he can open doors anyway but he never offers to go upstairs.

CMOTDibbler · 16/11/2017 16:58

My dogs go everywhere tbh. Ddog1 is banned from our bedroom unaccompanied as he digs at the bed covers, and at night they either sleep in the sitting room in their crate or in Ds's room. Oh, and the kitchen is out of bounds. But those are our only restrictions - they aren't very hairy and if muddy/wet they are confined

Normally, no dogs in our bed overnight due to lack of room, but we currently have a foster puppy who has separation anxiety and all my normal techniques have failed, so she's in our bed

rightsaidfrederickII · 16/11/2017 16:59

Free rein of the flat (inc beds, he's only little), except he's not allowed in the same room as the small pets when we're out as he's prone to chasing squirrels

hollowtree · 16/11/2017 17:00

Upstairs, on the bed. Anywhere! Even when we're out of the house. He is well behaved though and would get down if we told him.

Swizzlesticks23 · 16/11/2017 17:09

@right

You have pet squirrels ?

fourpawswhite · 16/11/2017 17:10

I have three and they run the house and go wherever they please. Like swizzle they all sleep in the bed. The old lady of the three sometimes gets shut in porch if out as she as reverted to being a bad puppy and pees on my rug or pulls the bin over if left unsupervised. ShockI was thinking the other day we should have an elderly dog survival thread because I'm sure she's naughtier age 14 than she was as a puppy.

jenp256 · 16/11/2017 17:27

Our dog is not aloud upstairs or on sofas. He is put in kitchen diner when we go to bed or are out as he'll sneak on the couch and I don't want him on as he scratches the leather.

Cocobananas · 16/11/2017 18:07

Cocodog sleeps overnight on her palatial memory foam bed in the kitchen and if we are out. Otherwise being a bungalow upstairs is harder to enforce! So she is not allowed on the sofas in the living room but is allowed on our bed during the day, usually whilst waiting for me to have a shower and then take her for morning walk. I figure changing the bedding regularly and cost of a new duvet is much less than sofa wear and tear. Currently lying in hall because the wood burner is blasting out too much heat for her hairy backside.

roundtable · 16/11/2017 18:28

Don't tell me that fourpaws! Shock
