Hi all. I’m new here and I hope this post is allowed. I’m not a mum as we can’t have kids but I’m a dog mum. I’ve come here, as often when I search things on the internet I end up on informative mumsnet threads and you are all so nice!! Other forums, not always so much.
Anyway, I have a new puppy. Only with us five days and I was letting him in the garden and he got into a bit of the garden that is quite high with only a low wall. I was walking to get him when he threw himself over the low wall to land four feet down on concrete.
I feel so so so terrible. I took him to the Vets in a total panic, who gave him a once over and said he should be fine, but to keep an eye on him.
They didn’t do any x rays or anything so I’m worrying. DH will be fencing that bit off tomorrow!
But until he’s gone a few days and been ok I’ll be on tenterhooks for internal injuries and I can’t stop feeling so so guilty!
Has anyone else had a pup fall from a fair height?

My sisters border terrier was about 5 months ehen we took him to the beech for the first time, he took one look at the sea and ran in and kept going! My sister had to wade in after him and was waist deep by the time she caught him still swimming out to sea. God knows where he thought he was going.
Puppies have zero sense but they are sooo sweet.

Eryri! So very gorgeous.

Is that the same dog in both pictures? :o

Eryri1981 · 17/11/2017 08:22

Yep same dog, first pic aged about 10 weeks second pic aged 11 months. When he was tiny (and he was tiny!!) he looked mostly like a working cocker (his dad) but with a slightly elongated face and scruffy coat. Then his bedlington grey hair gene started to kick in around three months, plus he just grew and grew and grew into the gangly thing he is now, so now people easily guess the bedlington bit, but wonder what he is crossed with. He is great Smile

Dpuppy scarily fell over 4 metres this afternoon, climbed up a bank while walking, and ignored our calls and whistles. Then ran back along the top and fell down a steep, cliff all the way to the ground, bouncing off a ledge on the way down. It makes me sick thinking about it but she is fine! I picked her off the floor and rushed her to the vet, and when she got there she perked up, tried to play with other dogs 😀. Vet says she is very lucky and my heart is still in my throat. I am amazed at how she has literally bounced back. I hope your pup is fine too.

Oh that is so scary!! Is she still doing ok? My little boy is into everything lol. He’s crazy!!!! I need eyes in the back of my head to keep up with him.

Yes. You wouldn't know anything had happened. We were so lucky.

My 8 week old puppy leaped out from my arms at about 3ft, her eyes rolled a bit and she was a bit woozy, will she be okay?? I'm very worried for her and I feel extremely guilty :( she woke up fine and ran around and peed at her usual spot I hope she's okay, I need some advice I don't got any money for a vet appointment pls help me out!!

mumwhoneedshelps · 06/03/2021 06:20

She is a chihuahua mix btw!

BiteyShark · 06/03/2021 06:38

mumwhoneedshelp no one on here can tell you that everything will be ok. But if you can't afford a vet appointment you really do need to think about insurance. My dog cost thousands, and I mean thousands, in the first couple of years due to illnesses and accidents.

If you can afford a puppy you can afford insurance. Sort it.

Don’t be so hard on yourself years ago my puppy decided to go down the tiniest drain pipe off of my balcony though it didn’t go straight down it stopped to a hault on a ledge 1.5 floors up from the garden thank god it barked and didn’t just jump my mum had her hand down the drain holding dog by it’s tail my uncle had to climb on railings to grab it neighbours allready called the fire brigade was horrific the puppy looked twice the size of the drain pipe don’t know how she fit down it! These things happen I’m sure he’ll be fine.
