Like a toy dog you sit in the car and the head wobbles as you drive....I've had her to the vet to day.shes had a painkilling injection, they said ear infection...and I've ear drops for both ears....I'm not convinced..any ideas?.. how do you get ear infection in both ears at same time...it's more like a shake / tremor, pup is 6 months old

Ha. I had to use my body and trap Wolfie pup against the corner of the kitchen like a crush to start with. By the end of the treatment she tipped each ear up in turn!

I have a bulldog who prone to a wobbling head , I at first thought epilepsy but was told
If u call the dogs name and she responds then it’s unlikely to be epilepsy, the
Vet eventually diagnosed idiopathic head tremors , sometime she needs extra calcium or honey and it stops.
I don’t if that helps but I just wanted to say epilepsy is not alway the way too think.

Laceup · 19/10/2017 20:23

Yes normal.ive just found that on line..what happened and do you have any medication for it

We don’t no , apparently it’s not harmful , I notice it more if she’s been off food , if she starts I give her a calcium chew and a spoon of honey , they soon stop. If you google head tremors you tube has some vids.
It could also be your dogs ear infection though , if your worried after the drops have had a chance might be worth taking her back to the vets .

I've been looking on u tube at videos of dogs with idiopathic head tremors, they look exactly like what she's doing, and they said it's when they are sleepy ,early morning, and bedtime / nap time...fingers cross I'm getting my tights in a tangle and it's an ear infection as the vet said..will go in with video in the morning

I'm wondering if I need to look at her diet...u tube people seemed to think there was a link between diet and the tremors..she's on AVA optimum health for small breeds.hypo allergenic free from wheat and gluten

Good luck tomorrow.

guessthisisnormal · 19/10/2017 21:43

Like I said we notice it when she’s not eaten or being fussy , so it’s def a possibility it could be food related ,
I hope what ever it is , it’s an easy fix for you , although if it’s what our girl has as much as it’s scary for us it doesn’t seem to bother her . Fingers crossed for you .

Laceup · 19/10/2017 21:46

I'm claiming ZERO expertise. On my first dog and currently petrified as she's off her food, subdued and we are waiting on bloods. Wishing you well OP. They are a worry.

Laceup · 19/10/2017 21:50

Seriously anxious @Laceup
Tears and everything.
And DH away.
Shall stop derailing the thread now. Sorry.

Laceup · 19/10/2017 21:56

Oh no Wolfe it's fine xxx have the vets any idea?

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 19/10/2017 22:08

Lungs fine (breed prone to pneumonia)
Heart rate and temp on high side of normal
Said she was nauseous.
Completely off food.
Bloods sent off.
Could maybe be a phantom pregnancy. Season in August. Can't spay a giant breed until they've finished growing.
I'm just sitting here watching her every move and wishing her better. I do suffer with anxiety anyway so that doesn't help.

Laceup · 19/10/2017 22:16

Oh bless you ,I do hope things turn out okxx I worry a lot too..have you got a copy of the worry tree?. I keep it on my phone ,so I can look when needed

I would second idiopathic head tremors. One of mine had a couple of episodes like this as a youngster and he was very tired. Really weird as he was totally "with it" so not like epilepsy. I'd be really careful of vet prescribing epileptic medication without investigating in more depth. Sorry to be dismissive, but I can't imagine a breeder of "chugs" (yes?) being too knowledgeable. Good luck.

Laceup · 22/10/2017 19:41

Hairthereeverywhere, breeder has been lovely, she came from a family who owned both mum and dad..I hate the way they give names now to cross breeds..she's just a mixture of two.we..don't use the word chug.dont like it.not a proper name of a breed.wont use it...she's a nightmare at the moment anyway..I really need to buy a mussel for getting the ear drops in
