Choosing the right pedigree do for family

We can't seem to decide on a breed. We want a small family dog maximum weight to 9kg. We sadly dont want a terrier because of their instincts to chase and wonder off, off course we will train the dog at a training school.

We thought off the following: cockapoo, Miniature poodle, Australian Terrier.

We do not want any flat faced dogs due to their ill health and breathing.

Any advice, experience and suggestions would be highly valued.

Thank you in advance.

Like Oops, I'm a Border Terrier lover, I think they're the perfect dog tbh. Yes, they have a high prey drive but my current BT (boy) never wanders and rarely goes any distance away from me when we're out.

He's been very easy to train, is doing really well at Agility, is affectionate to everyone except the postman, and his coat seems to repel water and mud so he's easy to keep clean with very little grooming apart from twice yearly handstrip (£30). As far as terriers go, I think BTs are less terrier-ish than many other terrier breeds but with no less character and zest for life.

But I am biased Grin
