Which breed?

Don't know whether to get a staffie or golden retriever. Any advice?

I'm biased as I've had 4 but Golden Retrievers are awesome

What do you want in a dog?

Personally I'd get an older rescue staffie (3+, so they've calmed down a bit) but it really depends on what you're looking for.

I have a 13 year old son who wants a dog. He can be quite boistress so want a dog who his gonna be understanding and a good family dog. Easy to train too.

Retriever.

The Staffie will be enjoy a boisterous family life, will be cheeper to feed, less muddy and much less hairy. However if you get it from a pup, be warned, they chew. Everything. They can be very boisterous as young dogs but in my experience they are easy to train and incredibly loving and loyal, especially towards the children of the house.

I don't have any experience of goldens but believe that they make wonderful pets - easy to train, loving and loyal. As big dogs they will eat a lot more and they really shed. A lot. They can also be very boisterous as young dogs - I have a friend who had two and they had gone through all of the doors in their home. That is they ate or scratched through all of the doors .

For a boisterous teenager? Staffie.

These are two very different breeds indeed, so I think the best advice would probably be to try and spend some time with both and see what appeals. Perhaps contact the breed clubs and see if they have a member local to you who would let you meet their dogs close up?

What do you mean by that?

Go and visit a reputable breeder of both dogs. See them in their home environment and get a true feel to what they’re really like.

GR are big dogs that can be a handful as puppies and need training and socialising carefully, they also shed a lot. SBT are lovely dogs but getting one from the right breeder is so important.
