Are we actually going to get these dogs

totoromama · 06/10/2017 16:55

We have been in contact via Facebook message for dogs from Czech republic.
We told her we would like dogs in march.
She now says dogs in January. How do we know that she will actually send us the dogs? We sent her£500 deposit we still need to pay£2400.

If it’s any consolation a dog groomer I know who adores her dog bought it from Russia . It was transported to uk and she collected it somewhere . She is training it in agility . Beautiful dog .
My next day though I am hoping to be a rescue . Best of luck though .

Getting two puppies at the same time from the same litter can create behaviour problems as the puppies grow up.

They can end up bonding very closely with each other and because of their intense bond cannot bond with the owners and proper socialization is inhibited. Often they can end up becoming fearful adults. Which is why most reputable breeders will not sell two litter mates to the same person.

Google it. It's really not a good idea.

dotdotdot3 · 09/10/2017 14:43

Google 'littermate syndrome'

LilCamper · 09/10/2017 15:15

They can also fall out big time as they mature and become hell bent on killing each other.

LilCamper · 09/10/2017 15:20

Double Trouble

totoromama · 09/10/2017 15:40

Ok didn't know that. We want 2 dogs so is it better to get 1 now and one later?

totoromama · 09/10/2017 15:48

I've looked at the global shiba inu forums and blogs and there are many people who have 2 puppies usually 1 male and I female both neutered

They have been very lucky. It is not worth the risk.

CornflakeHomunculus · 09/10/2017 16:00

It is possible for two puppies from the same litter (or of very similar ages) to work out if the new owners are extremely lucky or there are two adults at home who can each dedicate enough time to single puppy that they spend far more time apart then do together. Even in the latter scenario it’s still a gamble and for everyone who successfully raises two puppies at once there are plenty who end up having to rehome one of them.

I would also seriously reconsider having the puppy driven across Europe with a courier. The norm when importing is to either have the dog flown so it’s a much shorter journey or for the new owner to go out and drive them back themselves. Obviously the latter is still a long journey but the puppy can be given plenty of one to one attention and it can be broken up however you want.

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 09/10/2017 16:03

The fact that a breeder is happy to sell two litter mates at the same time to the same home immediately rings alarm bells for me, especially coupled with poor communication.

Have you had dogs before? Have you done lots of research on Shibas and met plenty?

Whitney168 · 09/10/2017 16:08

To someone they've never met, who has no background in the breed ...

Not much point in driving out to see them either, if you've already paid money and feel committed. The time to do this was before any money changed hands.

Mind you, no reputable breeder would take a deposit on 2 week old puppies either.

However, the OP had plenty of good advice on their first post and obviously knows better, so fingers crossed for any puppies that may actually materialise here. Grin

CornflakeHomunculus · 09/10/2017 16:39

Just to add to the excellent points made by Whitney, you need to have absolute confidence in this breeder as by the time a puppy is old enough to be brought into the UK the socialisation window will have already closed.

Nancy91 · 09/10/2017 18:11

Shiba Inus are not easy dogs, have you had difficult dogs before? Getting them in a pair may well make them even more difficult.

Tika77 · 09/10/2017 20:24

I wouldn’t worry about the courier there are businesses specialised to do this (make sure you do a research on the company).

I can’t comment on the two, I’d never do it myself.

Wolfiefan · 09/10/2017 20:26

You're planning on getting sibling puppies from a breeder you've never met and you've contacted through FB?!
Christ alive. Pull out. Do some research.

Soubriquet · 09/10/2017 21:20

Yeah I really wouldn't want two Sheba Inus especially if I wasn't an experienced owner.

They are very intelligent active dogs who need a lot of exercise and stimulation

They are not dogs you can leave 4+ hours a day whilst you go to work with a walk in between

Wolfiefan · 09/10/2017 21:42

I would only take on two puppies at a time if DH could take early retirement and was prepared to take on responsibility for one. Separate training and playing and bonding time. Separate walking and socialising. And if I was really experienced.

pigsDOfly · 09/10/2017 23:55

You really need to rethink this OP and take on board all the advice you've been given.

You might be better to let the £500 go and put it down to experience.

From what you've said it's clear that you know very little about dogs and nothing at all about the very difficult high energy breed of dog you're hoping to get from this person to whom you're prepared to send a lot of money for two dogs you may or may not end up receiving.

It all sounds like it's going to end horribly.

ButFirstTea · 10/10/2017 07:14

If you haven't even researched enough to have ever come across littermate syndrome then tbh you're ringing alarm bells for me along with the breeder. You honestly don't sound like you have the puppies' best interests at heart and I'd advise pulling out until you have done a bit more research.

Floralnomad · 10/10/2017 10:51

Why do you need one from this woman , there is some on the KC website at the moment and loads that are KC reg on the dreaded pets4homes , hardly a rare beast .

Calmanrose · 10/10/2017 10:54

Sorry but you sound immensely naive and stupid

Hopefully, a picture of a shiva inu for anyone, like me, who didn't know what kind of dog it was.

Multiple ads screams puppy farmers. If decent breeders are saying the OP would have a 3 year wait in this country then people advertising online are likely highly dodgy. Plus just a mobile number? Definite puppy farmer.
When will people learn?Angry

Floralnomad · 10/10/2017 23:43

Who says those breeders that the OP has spoken to are decent ? I'm no way advocating buying from a puppy farm , but she could quite easily now be buying from a Czech puppy farm. Being top in the breed / important in the breed is also no guarantee of honesty as the poster on here who bought the Podengo puppy could verify ( can't recall who she is ) .
