Bringing my Rescue Pup Home

I'm in the process of rehoming a lurcher pup from my local shelter. She's approximately 5 months old and is being kept with her two siblings in a largish room.

When we finally get her home will it be ok to bath her? The room she stays in has a grubby tiled floor and the three dogs together produce poop that is left for a bit (or eaten by her brother 😷). I'd like to wash the kennel smell out of her!

I'm having to wait as the shelter say they have upset stomachs and they'd like to neuter them too but I feel so sad thinking she could be here on my sofa instead of in a shelter & possibly feeling the cold.

Feel free to tell me to get a grip!

Let her settle in first for a day or so

I foster lurcher puppies (though our current foster is 18 months) and sometimes they arrive smelling so much that they go straight in the bath, and tbh it doesn't seem to worry them too much as long as its short and they stay warm.
Ours always go to their forever homes spayed if at all possible (you'd be amazed at how people find reasons to not get them done as instructed), and never go if they are ill. I know it feels like you just want them home, but the rescue want them to have the best possible start

If the pup is really smelly it's not too traumatic to give them a quick shower and then stick them in a fleece jacket, in fact they probably feel better for it.

Thanks all. Just can't wait to have her home.
